Since joining the soap in 2019, General Hospital’s Sydney Mikayla has taken the world of daytime drama by storm! She is an incredibly talented actress who has showcased powerful maturity in her performance as Trina Robinson. Her work garnered a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series this year. And while Sydney shared that the nomination was “unexpected,” we would like to say it was well earned.

What makes Trina such a beloved character is her relatability and that has much to do with Sydney’s portrayal of her. “I think what actually got me the role was making Trina as similar to me as possible,” she recollected. “What I love about Trina is that she is just so independent and honest. She’s a really good friend and daughter. She looks out for those she loves and I hope to be kind of the same person if I’m not already. So, I just think that Trina has an honesty about her that I try to portray in every scene.”

That honesty carries through to her relationships with her co-stars, including her on-screen momma played by Brook Kerr. Sydney shared that Kerr, who is known for work as Whitney Russell on Passions, has given her welcomed advice on how life in the industry works. “She’s just a down-to-earth person. She’s just so honest with me and really is a great mother figure on and off-screen.”

Recently, General Hospital fans have been loving the pairing of Trina and Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez). “I really love the connection that the writers are forming between these two characters. It’s so fun to play and it’s something that we haven’t seen from Trina before. [Nicholas] is such an amazing actor. And because he’s a little bit older than me I definitely think he brings that more mature side out of Trina, which I really love to see.”

Sydney also teased that fans should be anticipating what is coming up for her character. “I would say it’s unexpected. That’s definitely what I would say. Be ready for some things, because tables will turn! Dun Dun,” she laughed.

In addition to her work on General Hospital, Sydney has an impressive number of voiceover roles on her resume. You can check her out as Wolf in Netflix’s Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Olivia in Nickelodeon’s The Barbarian and The Troll, and Maya in Craig of the Creek on Cartoon Network. The actress noted that she loves the challenge her work in the world of voiceover provides. “Animation is really the complete opposite of General Hospital. It’s zany, crazy, and a lot of thinking outside of the box. I just hope that all these different types of acting experiences really shape me into the well-rounded actor I hope to be.”

This past year has been a significant one for Sydney professionally and personally. She recently graduated high school and will be continuing her education at UCLA. “I’m really excited to be part of that networking community. I think it’ll be so exciting to make some new connections and new friends. Plus blue and gold look really good on me!”

As we wrapped up our chat with Sydney, she wanted to express her gratitude for her fans. “I just would like to say thank you for all the support. I really appreciate it and I really can’t wait for you guys to see what’s up next on General Hospital and my upcoming projects. There’s some good stuff to look forward to.”

Thank you, Sydney, for the lovely chat!
