We spent years watching them as one of the most loved couples on ‘General Hospital’ and though onscreen they’ve parted ways, Maurice Benard (Sonny) and Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda Barrett) remains very close and actually shares a very touching history off-screen.
Marcil recently lost her dad with whom she was distant from for many years. But, thanks to her former co-star and close friend or rather her “father” figure, Maurice Benard, she was able to have a relationship with her real-life dad in his latter days. Marcil took to Instagram where she revealed how Benard helped her become the woman she is today. Marcil shared a throwback picture of her and Benard and captioned it:
“@mauricebenard was handed a bigger job than he was expecting. A brutally abused young girl. He picked me up, healed my heart & mended by broken wings so that I could fly away from him. Yes, a father. Because of the extra work Mo put in, I was able to forgive my father & break a chain that changed my life & the lives of my children. I forgave my dad because my tiny heart could finally take it after MO patched it back together. Look at this pic of us. Sonny was Brenda’s daddy. Beautiful scared child…”
Truly it is a touching story, we’re happy Benard was able to help her in such a huge way!
