Spoilers for General Hospital on August 21, 2023: Anna is suspicious. Drew feels threatened. Olivia sees Eddie in a new light. Dex’s cover may be blown. Sonny comes through for Carly.

General Hospital Episode Recap August 21, 2023: Sonny Threatens To Call Off The Deal

Anna wakes up alone and calls for Valentin. When she sees that he’s not there she uses a paperclip to pick the lock on his briefcase and starts to rifle through it. She finds an envelope marked Pikeman and sets it aside as she looks through the rest. When she hears Valentin at the door, she quickly closes the case up and puts it back just as he walks in. She acts casual but he notices the envelope on the table.

She questions where he was and he tells her a lie about ELQ. He asks what he can do for her and Anna tells him he can help her find out who is trying to destroy her life and why. They talk about it and Valentin tells her that he will keep looking into it but that there probably won’t be any easy answers. When Anna goes to get dressed Valentin gets a text from Sonny summoning him to the penthouse. When Anna gets out of the shower she notices that the envelope and the case are both gone and Valentin has left her a note, inviting her to dinner that night.

Carly is surprised to see Joss in the kitchen so early. She tells her Mom that she is going to the pool and is going to get a jump start on studying her textbooks for the upcoming semester. After she leaves Carly gets a call from Pentonville, it’s Drew. She tells him that she is happy he is out of solitary early and he asks how she knows that.

Carly explains what Sonny did and Drew is thankful for it. Carly asks if he’s ok and tries to find out why he was in solitary. Drew tells her what happened but when she finds out it was Cyrus that he helped, she is not happy. Drew explains that he couldn’t just watch someone get hurt and not step in, no matter who it is. He wants to know how she is doing and she tells him that she misses him but she’s ok. His time on the phone is up and they express their love for each other. He asks her to visit and she promises to come that day.

After Drew gets off the phone he goes to the library and runs into Cyrus and remembers saving his life. Cyrus greets him warmly and thanks him. He calls Drew his friend and Drew tells him that they are not friends. Cyrus says that he owes Drew and he vows to repay him for everything. Drew studies him, trying to figure out if that was a threat.

Robert and Diane run into each other in a judge’s chambers. They wait for the judge who is running late and Robert asks about the car show. Diane tells him all about it and tells him that she brought her friend Chris. Robert wonders if Chris is a man or a woman but all Diane will tell him is that they had a good time. Robert gets the call about Anna’s fire and has to leave to check on her, asking Diane to explain to the judge.

Diane goes to Carly’s and Carly assumes she has bad news but Diane is really looking for a friendly ear. Carly tells her that they are friends and she will happily listen to her. Diane tells her everything that happened with Robert and Holly and her confusion over what she should do. 

Diane confides in her that it has been so long since she has been in a relationship that she forgets how it works. Carly tells her that it’s like riding a bike and encourages her to jump back on. Diane is afraid that if she does Robert will hurt her again, Carly tells her that if Robert can appreciate her then to hell with him.

Robert arrives at Anna’s hotel room and comforts her over losing everything in the fire. He asks what he can do to help and she asks him to stay with her while she calls Robin. He agrees and they make the call together. Afterward, she tells him that she has to figure out who is trying to destroy her life and who she can trust. 

Olivia finds Ned eating cold lasagna in the kitchen and wants to make him something warm. He resists but she insists. While he eats he tells her about his talk with Tracy and that he wrote a song. He offers to sing her what he has so far and Olivia accepts. Ned goes to get his guitar and while he is out of the room, Monica calls Olivia to check on things and Olivia updates her. After her call, Ned plays the part of the song he wrote and she is very moved by it, making him promise to try and finish it before leaving the room.

Betty argues on the phone with Mason about having to keep up the nanny act but agrees to go along with it. When she goes into the penthouse, Sonny tells her that Avery is sick and gives her a paid day off with extra pay. After she leaves Sonny sends Dex to follow her. Sonny calls Ava and tells her that he gave Betty the day off and he is keeping Avery with him. He assures her that they will get the answers they need.

When Valentin gets there Sonny demands to know what the message from Anna was about. Valentin tells him that he has an acquaintance who works for Pikeman who told him about personal changes and he wanted to warn him. They argue about Pikeman and Sonny asks if Valentin is working for them. He denies that he is and Sonny suggests he should call the deal off. 

Valentin warns him not to do that. Sonny wants to know why it’s so important to him and Valentin tells him that he’s looking out for him because Pikeman is dangerous. He asks Sonny to not provoke them but Sonny tells him not to worry about him. Sonny dismisses him and Valentin leaves.

Betty goes to the Metrocourt pool where Joss is laying out and studying. She’s rude to the waitstaff when placing her order and she and Joss trade barbs. Dex comes over to Joss and surprises her with a passionate kiss. He uses hanging out with her as his cover while he watches Betty. Betty gets a call and leaves quickly and Dex puts his shirt on quickly to follow her. 

Joss is confused about what’s going on but he tells her to trust him and promises to call her later before leaving quickly after Betty. Dex calls Sonny and updates him about Betty’s movements and Sonny tells him to let Gabe trail her because he needs Dex to follow someone else. Valentin is on the phone with someone and tells them that he said rushing things was a mistake and now they’re going to pay for it.
