Guiding Light alums; Robert Newman and Orlagh Cassidy reunite in latest episode of Law & Order.
It’s always awesome when soap fans get a nice surprise during primetime! And this week was no exception for Law & Order viewers and Guiding Light fans. Why, you ask? Well, because when they tuned in, they were in for a treat—Robert Newman as Commissioner Robin Pettis and Orlagh Cassidy as Carol Oberlin appeared in the same episode and even shared a scene together!
Both Newman and Cassidy have been in the Law & Order world before. Robert Newman played Cal Cuter in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit back in 2010, and a warden in a Law & Order episode in 2022. He first appeared as Commissioner Pettis on SVU in February and has been in three episodes so far. He also crossed over to Law & Order in the episode that aired on March 21, 2024, reuniting with his Guiding Light colleague, Orlagh Cassidy. Cassidy, on the other hand, first played Angela on Law & Order in 2003. She took on the role of Dana in 2008 and Detective Sheila Ray in 2010 before returning to play the new role of Carol Oberlin in last night’s episode.

In regards to their reunion, Robert Newman wrote, “So….last night’s L&O….I had no idea that Orlagh Cassidy had been cast in the same episode…same scene…until I got to the set and saw her name on the call sheet. It is so nice when you have a familiar friend and colleague with you in a scene on a show like that. I could not have been more pleased to be working with her. She played Doris Wolfe on GL for several years and I’ve always admired her work. We had a great time together!“
Robert Newman played the role of Josh Lewis on Guiding Light, he also played Ashland Locke on The Young and the Restless, Prescott Harrell on General Hospital and Kirk Cranston on Santa Barbara. While Cassidy played Doris Wolfe on Guiding Light and Sloane Wallace on Another World.
