General Hospital icon Janis Paige passed away at age of 101.
An announcement on her Facebook page expressed deep sadness over her passing, “We’re very sad to report that Janis Paige died yesterday, peacefully at home in Los Angeles. She was 101 and lived a life fuller than she could have imagined. She was grateful for everything, which is why she said her memory was so good. Please keep her in your thoughts and watch her performances, read her book, tell her stories, for that is how she will live on in the minds and hearts of all, for generations to come. May her memory be for a blessing.”
Born Donna Mae Tjaden in 1922 in Tacoma, Washington, she began her singing career at a young age and later made her mark in Hollywood after being discovered by a Warner Brothers talent scout. Despite some ups and downs in her Hollywood career, Janis found definitive stardom on Broadway with her role in the hit play “The Pajama Game” opposite John Raitt. She also left a lasting impression on the big and small screens, showcasing her versatility in a variety of roles. With a career spanning over several decades, Janis Paige will be remembered as a versatile and enduring talent in the entertainment industry.
Janis Paige portrayed the characters of Iona Huntington on General Hospital, Laureen Clegg on Capitol, and Minx Lockridge on Santa Barbara.
