Jasper Cole is a veteran character actor with over a 100 TV/film credits, Jasper continues his villainous streak having co-starred in the box office smash hit film, The Purge: Anarchy as a “Homeless Man” produced by Michael Bay and more. Cole remains interested in playing bad guys and homeless guys. Cole talks about his past, present and future gigs and much more. Read the full interview below!
Hey JASPER, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Jasper: I was born and raised in Athens GA then lived in Atlanta for two years as an actor and writer….moved to LA in 1987 with a play I co-wrote and co-starred in WILLOW SPRINGS NOW..from there I got an agent and mgr and began this showbiz journey which will be 31 years in September of this year
Can you share what has been your favorite role so far in acting?
Jasper: I’ve been so blessed to work in all mediums and I met so many great people each time. On stage one of my favorites was HAROLD in BOYS IN THE BAND which is actually on Broadway now. Film roles have been so varied but more working on MacGruber hold a special place for me because I’m a die-hard SNL fan and this was based on the sketch form the show and I had the honor to work with Will Forte, Kristin Wiig, Ryan Philipe and Val Kilmer, as well as Lorne MIchaels and Seth Meyers, producing, TV-wise, I have worked on some of the best shows ever including EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS, CSI, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE and many others. Its so hard to pick a favorite but Andy Samberg was so great to work with and Michael McDonald from MAD TV directed the episode on BROOKLYN NINE-NINE so that’s a highlight for sure.
Do you have any primetime appearances in the near future that fans can look forward to?
Jasper: My last two episodes were WEST WORLD and AMERICAN HORROR STORY. I Finally got to check the working with Ryan Murphy off the career wish list. I’m so grateful to get to work with such amazing actors, Producers, and directors.
What are the gigs that you have in the pipeline that you can talk about?
Jasper: I have two films CAPTURED and MODEL HOME that are due out soon. Both are thriller/Horror films but very different characters in each. “Shelly” in CAPTURED is a groundskeeper at an old abandoned estate where a horrible crime took place years before and its revisited by the daughter who grew up there with her band to film a music video. I was so happy to work with some of the brightest young actors of today on this one. MODEL HOME is a disturbing psychological thriller and I play WALKER a “desert rat” who shows up at the wrong place and the wrong time and all hell breaks loose. There were several physical challenges on that film but it is such a great script and a unique concept that I’ve never seen before.
Who would you be your dream star to work with that you haven’t yet and why?
Jasper: That’s another long list but at the top is Jeff Bridges as I think he’s one of the best working today. He does it all, comedy, Drama, music and takes the work seriously without taking himself too seriously. I would love to work with directors like The Cohen Bros whom I have auditioned for several times and Quentin Tarantino is right up there too. Actresses include Jessica Chastain and Jessica Lange. Clearly, I have a thing for Jessicas lol
What can fans expect from you this year?
Jasper: Well, hopefully, I will see lots of them this weekend in San Diego as I make my fifth appearance in the Sails Autograph arena Sat and Sunday, July 21-22. My podcast ONE ON ONE WITH JASPER COLE is now in its 6th season on iTunes, Spreaker, Stitcher and BS Podcast Networks. I sit down and interview newsmakers, politicians, Actors, and celebrities from many genres.
