This
year musician and actor, Joshua Hoffman, joined the cast of The Bold and the
Beautiful where he portrays the new Ridge “RJ” Forrester, Jr. Hoffman
recently did an interview with Soap Opera Digest where he talks
about his “first love,” his acting career, his love of music (plays the piano
and guitar) and of course The Bold and the Beautiful.
Hoffman’s
first love wasn’t acting; it was a bat, baseball, glove, and a baseball diamond.
Hoffman played baseball every single day and played on a baseball traveling
team. He loved the game so much that Hoffman and his family believed his future
lay in the MLB (Major League Baseball.)
However,
there came a time when Hoffman became “burned out by it.” His mom, using her
mommy senses, recognized it and suggested to her son, “Hey, you should go and
act in a play.” Even though, at that time, that was the furthest thing from the
12-year-old’s mind, he did, and a new love emerged.
In the
interview, Hoffman shared a few of his career milestones prior to landing on
Bold. His first time on stage was in the dramatic adaptation of Oliver
Twist, his first acting job on screen was in the Showtime drama Shameless
and his first series regular role was as “Rudy” in the Nickelodeon sitcom Talia
in the Kitchen.
After
graduating from high school, Hoffman was living on the West Coast working as a
security guard at a ski resort when daytime came a calling. In response to
learning about the casting call, he did a self-tape and then had an in-person
audition at the studio. “I did one audition that was with Jacqui [Macinnes
Wood, Steffy] and then the last audition I did was with Thorsten [Kaye, Ridge].
Jacqui was an absolute sweetheart, which helped my audition tremendously. And
Thorsten was great because somewhat immediately, he asked me to go run the
scene and then he just improvised every line he had and it was very fun.”
Hoffman
went on to mention how the entire cast and crew has been so warm and welcoming.
“It’s
been fantastic. The people that I get to work with are incredibly kind; they’re
some of the nicest actors I’ve ever been able to work with, and everyone’s just
been open and warm and accepting. When I introduce ideas, they’re listened to,
which honestly means the world to me. And this new storyline with John [Mccook,
Eric] is absolutely an honor, especially that I get to do it with him, who I
