Kelly Monaco, a 21-year veteran of General Hospital, is making an exit from the ABC daytime drama as Sam McCall. In the climactic final moments of her storyline—intensely emotional—Monaco delivered an unscripted moment that has ignited a buzz online. As her character, Sam, was being wheeled off for surgery to donate a piece of her liver to save Lulu, Monaco made the “I Love You” sign, a gesture she later revealed “was not scripted.”
In August 2024, Soap Opera Network was the first to report the news of Monaco’s impending exit. It was noted that Monaco was “blindsided” upon learning of the decision. Since the announcement, her devoted fans have rallied together, devising numerous campaigns to capture the attention of TPTB in hopes of having Monaco rehired. However, Monaco filmed her final scenes on September 27, 2024.
