In the latest comings and goings for Beyond the Gates, the show is experiencing its first-ever recast of a lead character. Dr. Ted Richardson, affectionately known as Turtle-neck Ted by fans, will have a new face starting in May. Maurice Johnson, the actor who originated the role since the show debuted on February 24, 2025, is departing from both the show and the character that fans have quickly come to love. Keith D. Robinson is taking over the role!
Maurice Johnson is a versatile actor with a rich background in both film and television. Though new to daytime television, he has delivered performances in various hit series such as “Chicago PD,” “Hawaii Five-O,” “Good Girls,” “Devious Maids,” “Meet the Browns,” and “The Vampire Diaries,” among others.

Born in Augusta, Georgia, Maurice discovered his passion for acting when he stepped onto the stage for his first play, Thomas Meloncon’s “Diary of Black Men,” directed by Dr. Wendy Coleman at Albany State’s Billy C. Black Auditorium. He earned a football scholarship to Albany State University, where he graduated with a degree in Speech and Theatre. As a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., initiated at the Chi Epsilon chapter at Albany State, Maurice has also expanded his creative repertoire by taking on roles as a producer and director.
