Forty-five years ago, Michael Damian stepped into the role that would quickly turn him into a household name—the one and only Danny Romalotti on The Young and the Restless.

While Damian officially first hit the Genoa City scene back in June 1981, the cast and crew recently put together a lovely backstage celebration to honor the recurring star’s massive milestone. Fittingly, in light of the big occasion, Danny—who has now partnered up with Noah Newman to take control of The Shadow Room—performed “All I Need” straight off Damian’s newest album Mixed Emotions.

A Genoa City Rock Legend Is Born

Throughout his incredible tenure on the daytime drama, Damian has anchored some of the show’s most memorable, front-and-center storylines.

It all started back in 1981, when a 16-year-old Danny kicked off his career as Genoa City’s favorite teenage rock star. His high-energy concerts were a staple of the show, where he was regularly backed up by his sister Gina Roma (Patty Weaver) and his close circle of friends: Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland), Lauren Fenmore (Tracey E. Bregman), and Amy Lewis (then played by Stephanie E. Williams), who all sang right alongside him on stage.

Family Secrets and Dynamic Duos

In 1987, Danny’s family history took a huge turn when his and Gina’s long-lost father, Brian Romalotti (Quinn Redeker), drifted into town straight out of prison. It wasn’t long before Jill Foster Abbott (Jess Walton) scooped him up, gave him a high-society makeover, and renamed him “Rex Sterling” as part of her scheme to con Kay Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper).

Then came the romance that defined a generation. Though a much younger Cricket Blair (Lauralee Bell)—long before she went strictly by Christine—was originally just a kid in Danny’s eyes, the spark between them was undeniable. The two eventually started dating, fell deeply in love, and launched one of soap opera history’s most celebrated supercouples.

Through splits, reunions, and decades of drama, fate always brought them back together—and fans are thrilled to see them happily remarried today!
