What a fine and talented actor Rory Gibson is! He’s been on fire ever since he took over the role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, and this past week, he reminded everyone exactly why he’s becoming a fan favorite. In fact, his powerful performance just earned him Soap Opera News’s Performer of the Week for June 23–27!
At this point, Rory’s making a strong case for Best Recast of 2025. The way he’s settling into the role with confidence and nuance? Honestly, it’s going to be a challenge for anyone to top him by the end of the year (stay tuned for our annual accolades in December!).
In this week’s emotionally charged scenes, Michael faced off with his ex-wife, Willow Tait — the same Willow who had an affair with his uncle and is now engaged to Drew. When she dropped the engagement bomb, Michael was floored. His reaction was priceless: part shock, part disgust, all disbelief. And then came the fire.
Rory Gibson Is the Performer of the Week
Michael didn’t hold back. He called her out, reminding her that if she thought this move would help her win back the kids, she was sadly mistaken. He saw right through the game. After all, it’s the same strategy they used to get custody of Wiley. And then, in a fierce, gut-punch moment, he warned her: marry Drew, and he’d make sure she never sees the kids again. Ouch!
Gibson balanced fury, heartbreak, and a father’s fierce protectiveness in a way that felt so real. His timing, emotional range, body language, and even the restraint in certain moments elevated the entire scene.
We can’t say it enough. Rory’s got it all: charisma, emotional range, strong screen presence, and the kind of acting chops that make soap moments unforgettable. His scenes this week? 100% Emmy-worthy.
Huge congrats to Rory Gibson on being named Soap Opera News’s performer of the week. (Photo: ABC.)
