Performer of the Week
Jennifer Gareis, who portrays Donna Logan on The Bold and the Beautiful, has been working in the genre for over two decades and is finally getting her time to shine again. In the story, Gareis’s character is front and center with an intriguing storyline supporting John McCook’s Eric Forrester, the patriarch of the Forrester family. Eric is suffering from an undiagnosed illness that includes tremors and coughing up blood, and Donna has been right by his side supporting him through this difficult period. Despite his illness, Eric is determined to create a couture line that will take Los Angeles by storm and compete against his own son, Ridge Forrester, in a fashion battle on the runway. Meanwhile, Donna worries about Eric’s health and wishes he would gather the whole family to tell them the truth about what’s happening. This week, Eric and Donna got a visit from Dr. Colin Colby, who told them that his findings so far are Cerebrovascular disease and TIAs. Although an accurate diagnosis is still yet to come, Donna was heartbroken and brought to tears as she worried about Eric’s health. Gareis gave a gut-wrenching and heart-tugging performance that we could not overlook, and with this in mind, she is Soap Opera News’ pick for performer of the week. Congratulations, Gareis!

What an amazing week it was for daytime soap operas! We were blown away by the incredible performances of Martha Madison, Courtney Hope, Josh Swickard, and John McCook. Let’s start with Madison’s portrayal of Belle on Days of Our Lives. She delivered a heart-wrenching performance as her character discovered her partner’s infidelity and confronted him. Madison was absolutely outstanding in these scenes, which makes it even more saddening that she will be leaving the show next month. Moving on to John McCook, who has been doing a fantastic job as Eric Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful. The storyline where Eric is sick and determined to create one last breathtaking line has been gripping, and McCook has been phenomenal in delivering these scenes as Eric’s condition worsens. He had practically every viewer in tears, wondering what would happen to the beloved Forrester patriarch. Courtney Hope continues to impress as Sally Spectra on The Young and the Restless, especially when given emotional material that showcases her talents. Her confession scenes with Nick were exceptional and truly heartbreaking. Finally, Josh Swickard gave a moving performance on General Hospital as Chase learned about his father’s ALS diagnosis and the fact that others knew before him. Swickard’s acting brought tears to our eyes in just a few moments. Congratulations to all for their outstanding performances this week!
