H-E-L-L-O! We had a lot going on last week. I’m just giving you the facts and toning down my colorful commentary so you won’t have a book to read lol. Let’s go.
General Hospital
Ryan tried to finish Lulu off by smothering her with a pillow in her hospital bed. Laura walked in before and didn’t see Ryan in the act. Lulu woke up but didn’t remember her assailant no matter how hard she tried. The PCPD had a new suspect thanks to Ryan, Franco. Ryan visited Kevin who went blind during the visit. Yet, was still sharp enough to set a trap (we hope) for Ryan when he said Kevin and Laura had a prenup. Ava did her own investigative work. She sought the help of Olivia’s spidey senses. But Liv was visionless. Ava then pushed an already shaken up Lulu a bit too far to try to remember her assailant. Laura told Ava, back off. It was such a great dynamic between these two powerhouse characters, actors and mothers.
Daisy tearfully admitted she was the one who sent Sam the emails. Sam didn’t buy it. Jasam agreed to faux break-up and that Sam would faux join Dawn of Day to beat Shiloh at his own game. Brad found out that Willow was the person who thinks she is Wiley’s mom. Stephen A. Smith made a visit, which left us with the impression the Dante issue will be resolved soon one way or the other. Our favorite scenes of the week were with Brad, Lucas, and Liz. Brad and Lucas shared their wisdom, knowledge, experiences and advice with Liz about being gay, coming out and gave her realistic expectations about what could lay ahead if Aiden was gay. We are so in love with this storyline and gave a silent soap prayer that the dinner with Brad, Lucas, Aiden, Liz, etc. happens on-screen.
The Bold and the Beautiful
We were cheering that finally finally finally somebody questioned this adoption. Yes, it’s only a soap. But a little realism every now and then at least is a good thing lol. Finally, somebody questioned that just maybe it was “strange” that somebody Taylor doesn’t know was selling a baby for 250K (paid in cash in a suitcase). Thank you Ridge! “Is she buying a village?”, spoke for us. Ridge said something just didn’t feel right. Thank you again Ridge! Dr. Reese paid off his creditors, made sure all of the baby’s phony documents were in order and planned to leave for London. We saw Carter. Yea! He handled the adoption paperwork. The paperwork was signed. Now Phoebe (officially no longer baby x) was “legal”.
Hope graciously encouraged Liam to be there to help welcome Kelly’s sister home. Phoebe’s new home was beautifully decorated for her arrival. Liam and then Hope came by and she held her daughter. As a soap fan, this storyline is going to be a difficult one to watch unfold. None of these family members are villains or knowingly did anything wrong. But we know the actors will give us inspiring wonderful heart breaking performances.
The Young and the Restless
Jack threw an engagement party for Abby and Arturo. Everything was fine until Mia’s alcoholic jealous rant. The next day, Abby showed up at Mia’s place and called a truce. While doing Abby’s hair Mia had a daydream that she cut Abby’s blond locks. We had a daydream of Mia being Shelia Carter “ish”. Please. Kerry wasn’t transgender. The syringe was for harvesting her eggs. The subject of kids was angst for her and Jack. Too much too fast…just saying. Jabot’s photo shoot models were stranded in New York. No problem. Kyle and Fen stood in. Michael and Zach, very nice eye candy. Summer was back. This time her sights were not set on Billy rather Kyle. Good luck Lola.
The Murder Club gave Nick, at his insistence, a blow by blow of what happened the night JT died. Nikki had daymares of her killing JT. She took a nap to take the edge off and when she awoke, Katie was gone. Villy, Niktor and Nick all frantically searched for her at the ranch. At the end of Friday’s episode, it appeared Katie was trapped in the walls at the ranch. Her imaginary friend wasn’t so imaginary after all?
Days of Our Lives
Salem had a lot going on last week. We will try and condense it. Rex found out it was Xander, that Sarah slept with not his brother, Eric, which according to Rex wasn’t as bad. We all make mistakes. So, he asked Sarah to take him back. She did. Xander left Salem and just like last time he didn’t leave empty-handed. He left with Dr. Rolf’s diary of resurrection and memory formulas. The same diary that Eve stole and lied to Jack that she knew nothing about. Haley told JJ her story of her family, her parent’s death, how she ended up in the States living with her sister, Melinda and how she was undocumented.
Elani had a romantic beach getaway, Salem style, and said “I Love You” for the first time. Show them more please and thank you. Can somebody, anybody explain to us how Will has sat at the feet of the great Sami Brady and witnessed her in all her scheming manipulative glory and then would spill all to Diana Cooper, who he doesn’t know from a hole in the ground? How? And what in the world was Sonny and Sarah doing telling their momma’s what was going on and what someone wanted to be going on in their bedroom’s? Chloe’s murderous past caught up with her as promised. Someone sent her a souvenir, the bloody knife that she killed Mateo with.
Marlena had a face-off with Melinda who tried to intimidate Marlena by promising to sue her if she told anyone what she knew about Haley. Melinda, please Marlena has overcome the devil and Stefano. Marlena met Diana Colville Cooper for the first time. Leo planted a kiss on Brady. Hope tried to reach Ciara because Theo told Hope Ciara left to come home early. Ciara was a little tied up and couldn’t answer the phone. Hope suspected Ben of foul play and begged Marlena for any information she could give her about Ben. Sweet Mother of God, Diana, showed up in Salem. We learned Leo’s real name, Matthew Cooper, aka parasitic leech, she knows Ted Laurent (not sure if Will picked up on it sigh), she’s not quite ready to turn her son over to the people of Salem, to her John Black was still Roman and you’d better not talk sassy to her because she will let you have it.
Performers of the Week
Our Honorable Mention Performer of the Week is Maurice Bernard of General Hospital! What a journey this has been with Maurice and Sonny, facing, accepting and living with Mike’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. Maurice has played each note along the way with quiet raw emotion. As Sonny faced and experienced the sobering reality that Mike needed permanent care, Maurice deftly modeled the pain, sadness and grief that some of us know all too well. When Sonny teared up and packed Mike’s suitcase, it made me cry as I have recently had to face a painful diagnosis of my own mother. We love the cra-cra of soaps but we are thankful for these moments as well when actors tap into our hearts and emotions and remind us that none of us are in this alone. Maurice has gifted us throughout this storyline. Thank you, Maurice.
Our Performer of the Week is Robert Scott Wilson of Days of our Lives! We are so grateful the writers didn’t miss, skip or gloss over this beat. We are grateful we didn’t get an instant cured Ben. Rob was spell-binding, riveting and chilling. First with Ben and Claire’s confrontation (Tripp stormed out after he found out Ben and Claire teamed up to break him and Ciara up). Then when Ben showed up at Marlena’s office totally self-aware that he was spiraling out of control and crying out for help because he didn’t know how to stop it. Robert masterfully embodied what it must be like for Ben: haunted, scared, frustrated, conflicted, desperate, tormented, tortured. Rob’s portrayal of Ben grappling to fight and overcome his demons was I’m grappling for a good enough word…..Rob, you just did the darn thing!
