This was one of the hardest week’s I can remember as a soap fan. A very close member of our soap family,  Kristoff St. John suddenly passed away.  We all mourn and remember him in our own way.  His final episode aired on Wednesday, February 6, 2019. Neil’s final words were to Devon about Ana singing after she promised never to sing again; “She did it for you. Because that’s what family does.” RIP Kristoff. We will love and cherish you and Neil forever. There was a tribute at the end of Friday’s episode. And The Young and the Restless announced a storyline will begin in April to honor Kristoff and Neil.

Our weekly recap and Winners are below.

The Young and the Restless

There was a tense triple date with Kola, Teriah and Fen and Summer at Crimson Lights. Summer’s presence and Kyle’s cracking under the no sex pressure was bringing Kola to its breaking point. Abby and Mia dropped the facade and the claws came and stayed out. Thank goodness. Abby needed a nemesis. She needed someone to bring out that Newman fire. She is Victor’s daughter after all.  Devon went all out to introduce Fen to the music industry. But Fen got cool feet and decided to wait to make his entrance at his own coming out party. And when you snooze you lose. Ana took his place and wowed his audience instead.

Katie was found in the walls at the Ranch and the Newman’s found the surveillance equipment. But it was too late the damage was done. The spy had already recorded and forwarded an incriminating tape between Victor and Nick to the GCPD. Sharon came across it but couldn’t find it in herself to delete it. She turned it in to Rey.  That kicked the prosecution’s case into high gear and Victor’s trial was immediately set. Nischelle Turner guest starred as the news anchor who kept GC residents apprised of  Victor’s arrest, case and impending trial. We got a good chuckle at the Newman’s. They know the truth about everything. Yet they are keeping their attorney, Michael, in the dark while telling him to fix it. Newman’s actually acting like Newman’s. We always approve. Victor told Nick he doesn’t trust Arturo. Good. We want a good messy story with Arturo and Abby. Spice them up. Rey and Christine came to the Ranch to escort Victor to the court house. Victor was cuffed and ready to go when Nikki’s conscious brought everything to a screeching halt. Will she confess?

Days of Our Lives

Some of our favorite scenes last week were between Leo and Diana.  Exposition of off screen events are always tricky and even more tricky when it involves new characters. But Leo and Diana’s family backstory; Leo growing up feeling he wasn’t the son his mother wanted, his father’s abuse and Leo killing his father; had us ready for more. And here we thought Diana was going to be the one to watch. But Leo told Diana if she didn’t watch her step, she’d get the same thing his father got. John did the math and wondered if he had yet another long lost son. Stefan and Chloe managed to escape Mateo’s men alive. But Chloe and her kids lives were still in danger. So, she’s moving into the DiMera mansion. Chloe/Brady/Stefan triangle? Illegal immigration became a mayoral election issue.

Jordan was back! And she’s “officially” Ben’s sister. She’s crazy!  The writers gave us solid realistic reasons, given Jordan’s abuse and experiences with Clyde, why Jordan would be off her rocker. Jordan was back in Salem to protect Ciara and Abby from Ben. How? She kidnapped Ciara. And she was going to kidnap Abby but took Charlotte. Jordan had Charlotte and a tied up Ciara at the cabin. With Ciara and Charlotte both missing; Abby, Chad, Jennifer, JJ, Hope, etc, were on edge. Hope convinced that Ben kidnapped Ciara, pushed and pushed Marlena until Marlena broke privilege and told Hope Ben had missed a few dosages of his meds.

Robert Scott Wilson gave another week of amazing performances.  Ben’s scenes with Hope/Ted, Marlena (those were fantastic), defending himself with Chad (Chad attacked Ben because he thought Ben kidnapped Charlotte) then Eli and then showing up at the Horton house to tell Abby he didn’t kidnap Charlotte was such good soap. Ciara tried to pull a fast one on Jordan so she could escape. But Jordan was sane enough to see that a mile away. But Ciara wasn’t as sharp. Jordan drugged Ciara. Then left a drugged Ciara and went to Ben’s place. Ben and Jordan came to face to face at the conclusion of Friday’s episode.

General Hospital

Anna told Sonny Dante was safer staying undercover until his mission was completed. Sam realized busting Shiloh would be more difficult than she initially thought. Shiloh is good. And he’s so good Sam was scared of how Kristina could be taken in by the DOD. Sonny low key threatened Shiloh. Sasha was back. Dr. O got a job as a medical advice columnist for Peter’s magazine. Domestic life has made Franco soft soft soft. He fell right into Ryan’s trap and landed himself in jail for attacking Lulu and then the serial murders, including Kiki. Margaux was back determined not to be ruled by her past or her vendetta against Sonny. Oscar’s tumor stopped growing. His prognosis remained the same.  The contents of Gail’s will, will be revealed on April 1st.

Ryan and Ava got into an argument about Ryan not being upfront with Ava about Franco. Ryan grabbed Ava. Um, Ryan you are starting to crack. Liz was doing anything but cracking. She was standing and defending her man. Speaking of “her man” looked liked Alexis has a new one on the horizon. It’s about time! Jealous psycho Ryan approached Griffin about “Griffin and Ava.” Griffin told Ryan there was no such thing. Wasn’t Griffin a priest? Shouldn’t he sense the evil in Ryan? Just asking. Ryan believed Griffin does pose a threat to him and Ava so he has to go. Franco and Ava shared a tender moment when Franco declared his innocence and Ava believed him. Jordan had doubts about Franco? Praise gawd! Sometimes the PCPD stresses us out. Cliffhanger Friday had a jealous psycho Ryan with a needle with an unsuspecting Griffin nearby. Will Griffin survive? Well, he was in next week’s clips so we guess so…

The Bold and the Beautiful

Wyatt, Ridge, Sally and Brooke all met and fell instantly in love with Phoebe just like Taylor, Steffy, Liam and Hope. Ridge, Wyatt and Brooke all mentioned their wonder at the speed and the timing of Phoebe’s adoption. Hope went back to work and Hope For the Future is back. Dr. Reese said his good-bye’s to Taylor and to Zoe. His flight had probably barely reached cruising altitude and Zoe was at his flat snooping for clues as to what was really going on with her daddy. Surprise. Surprise. She found Florence. Zoe pushed Florence for information but she wouldn’t budge. Zoe left but went back for a second try and hit pay dirt. She saw a copy of Phoebe’s adoption papers. She looked at Florence’s flat tummy and knew there was no way she had a baby last month.

Hope understandably was still having a tough time with the loss of Beth. But she found a way to cope. Phoebe. Hope felt an inexplicable energy and a warmth from Phoebe. It’s that energy and warmth that had her invite herself with Liam to go see Kelly and Phoebe. And it had Liam and especially Steffy giving Hope a Hand That Rocks the Cradle meets Single White Female look. If you are too young to know these movies look them up. Us seasoned people know. LOL.

Performers of the Week:

Honorable Mention Performer of the Week is Roger Howarth, Franco, General Hospital! We enjoyed Franco this week. Yes, he’s gotten a little soft. Lol. But who can blame him? A loving family can and should do that. We absolutely adored  Franco’s vulnerability and self-awareness last week; from his tell-all session with Ryan, him talking to Kiki at her grave, thanking Ava for keeping Kiki away from him when he would have done her more harm then good, his declaration of his innocence to Ava and his scene with Elizabeth where he feared his tumor was back and that maybe he had done all those terrible things. RoHo gave us a vulnerable, sensitive, apprehensive, uncertain Franco. RoHo has such a great range. We love his softer side. Loved loved loved it! Great Job Roger!

Our Performer of the Week is Emme Rylan, Lulu, General Hospital! Lulu agreed to hypnosis to get past her memory block to help identify her attacker. Under Ryan’s duplicitous guidance Lulu relived that fateful night.  Emme gave us the ideal balance of inflection in her voice and expressions with a brush of realistic confusion as Ryan manipulated her memories. The fear she felt as she replayed that night was gripping. You felt the tension building as Lulu remembered the shoes, gloves……..then Franco’s face. Emme was so believable she had us believing Franco was her attacker! You felt Lulu’s horror and sorrow that Franco, who is helping to raise her nephews, was her attacker especially in Lulu’s scenes with Laura right after and then with Liz after Franco was arrested. Emme got what we have been begging for….material worthy of her talent! Yea Emme! And congrats on the contract renewal. More Lulu! Yea!
