Soap Opera News was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak to Days Of Our Lives’ Raven Bowens about how she got into acting, working with Jackee Harry and what’s ahead for her character Chanel Dupree!
Raven shared with us that her interest in acting was first sparked by a class she took in high school with her best friend. She told her grandmother who lives in Vegas and has a modeling agency about her interest in acting and “She ended up taking me with her to this big event that they do in Vegas where you perform a monologue and you get to meet agents. I did that and I met a bunch of agents and a couple of them encouraged me to move to LA.” She took their advice and moved to LA on a whim when some friends where going, “I ended up staying and getting in an acting class right away and going from there.”
Asked if she had any advice for others interested in pursuing acting and she was very encouraging, “Don’t overthink it. If it’s something that you want to do, get started…and just don’t take no for an answer and keep your eye on the prize.”
She told us that in her free time she loves to spend as much time with her family as possible and “I have a tea line with my sister called Peace Potions…we play around with mixing different herbs and spices to create tea blends. I love eating. I’m a big foodie. I do a food blog with her cousins.”
Aside from hitting as many LA restaurants as she can, Raven also finds time to hang out with some of her Days co-stars. “Carson’s (Johnny) my bestie, so is Lindsay(Allie) and Lucas (Tripp)…we’re the family. I’ve also spent time with Victoria(Ciara). I love her as well. She’s a lot of fun. That’s kind of our little crew.”
Raven also dished to us about being nervous to work with Jackee Harry and how she set her at ease! “I was definitely nervous beforehand because we grew up watching Sister Sister and I’ve been a big fan of a lot of the work she’s done and she’s a force and when you’re going to be onscreen with a force you don’t want to disappear…but she was just so wonderful! When I did finally get to meet her and work with her she was so supportive and made me feel so good…it’s been great and I love her so much!”
Fans of Chanel just might be surprised that while Raven says that playing Chanel is a dream her dream storyline to play would have her taking a darker turn, at least half the time! “I would love to do the twin thing, the evil twin. That’s one that I would love to do so I could get to be bad. I think Chanel is sweet. I would like to do some bad things to people!”
Finally Raven dished to us what is coming up for Chanel and her onscreen love Johnny DiMera when they return to Salem. “Johnny and Chanel are coming back with a really big surprise.”
We now know that they are coming back married but Raven teases, “Everything is going to seem one way but it’s going to be another way.”
