Earlier this year we chatted with Reg Rob about his beginnings in the world of acting. Rob, who you may recognize from his roles on Black Lightning and The Haves and the Have Nots, has an exciting new project for BET+, Sacrifice! And we couldn’t wait to chat with him about it!
Sacrifice tells the story of Daniella Hernandez, an entertainment lawyer, as she navigates the real and brutal side of the entertainment industry and her famous clients. “It was a very interesting script. What was pretty cool was that it gives you the real side of the entertainment industry that you might not see from the outside looking in.” Reg noted that there have been talks about the film possibly becoming a pilot for a series on the streaming service. “That’s kind of like your dream job,” he said about the idea.
In the film, Reg plays Mack, a gritty character. He was intrigued by the role. “I like taking on a character that is the total opposite of me.” He had played the thug and goon type of character before, but this was his chance to provide depth, subtlety, and knowledge to the role that he wasn’t able to before. “I made him intimidating. At the same time, I got him the chance to be more relaxed in his role like [he] had been doing this for a while.” He greatly appreciated the opportunity by the creative team behind the film to make the character his own.
And speaking of the creative minds behind the screen. Reg loved working with writer/director Chris Stokes (You Got Served, Til Death Do Us Part) and co-executive producer Marques Houston. “Shout out to them for creating a phenomenal project!” The environment they created was full of energy and refreshing for him. “You go in and they’re ready to work. It was a really focused atmosphere.” Starring alongside amazing actors like Paula Patton, Erica Ash, and Juan Antonio was another highlight for Reg. “The cast was so loving!”
With the release of Sacrifice, Reg is gearing up for an amazing start to the new year. “I can’t give away too much, but 2020 is already off to a bang,” he said. With a couple of films already lined up, he is getting that “Woah” moment. “I really feel like this is going to be one of those breakout years for me.”
