Believe it or not, in five years or so, we will be celebrating one hundred years of the daytime soap opera! Wow, right? One hundred years of transcendent love stories, whodunnits, love triangles, who the baby daddy (or momma) stories, catfights, fairytale weddings, betrayals, affairs, evil twins, fake deaths, tragic deaths, topical storytelling on social issues, and all sorts of way over the top drama…we’ve seen it all! It’s been one heck of a century! Author Alina Adams is breaking the seal of the almost centennial daytime time capsule in her brand-new book, “Super Soap Scenes: A Time Capsule of Daytime Drama’s Greatest Moments.”
Author Alina Adams Talks Brand New Book
Adams poses the obvious question. Is it possible to name daytime’s greatest moment? She muses, “Probably not. But it sure is a fun debate to have.” Indeed! She hopes her work will start “a wonderful conversation” because, as she correctly observes, “soaps, past and present, deserve to be remembered and celebrated for the nearly century of entertainment they’ve provided to millions of viewers.”
Needless to say, there is a lot of history to uncover. So, Adams did her homework. She spoke to soap opera fans to get their take on the best of the best, and Adams also talked to actors, writers, producers, directors, and other cast and crew to get the inside scoop on how the greatest moments came to be.
In the book, readers will hear from:
The Young and the Restless’ Peter Bergman on Jack and Victor’s most dramatic confrontation. Also, Jess Walton discusses Jill and Katherine’s most vicious fight ever.
General Hospital’s Lydia Look on Selina Wu’s battle with Sonny (Maurice Benard).
Days of our Lives’ James Reynolds on how Abe ended up stuck between two wives, and Wally Kurth on Justin and Adrienne’s Greek wedding.
All My Children’s Eden Riegel on Bianca’s coming out to her formidable mother, the one and only Erica Kane, portrayed by Susan Lucci.
Edge of Night’s Sharon Gabet on Raven’s romance with both Skys.
One Life to Live writer, Michael Malone, on the repercussions of Marty’s rape.
Guiding Light writer, Jill Lorie Hurst, on the surprise pairing of Natalia and Olivia.
As the World Turns writer, Susan Dansby, on Jack and Carly’s most brutal breakup.
The book also features reminiscences from the casts and crews of Another World, Santa Barbara, Dark Shadows, Search for Tomorrow, Port Charles, Ryan’s Hope, Generations, and more.
“Super Soap Scenes: A Time Capsule of Daytime Drama’s Greatest Moments” is available at Amazon.
And Adams issues this challenge to soap opera fans. “I dare anyone to read this book, and not want to immediately go looking for the scenes described, so they can see for themselves!” Game on, soap fans!
