Days of Our Lives recently did the thing! They killed off a legacy character, Abigail Deveraux DiMera was murdered in the June 10th episode of the NBC daytime drama. And, here is what Head Writer, Ron Carlivati had to say about it.

In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, he said, “Even though they’re fictional, it hurts anytime we kill somebody. In this instance, it was mostly for a practical reason because Marci was not going to be available to us full-time on contract and it made it challenging to tell story for Chad and Abigail. So, we didn’t really have the option to have Abigail around, and then that always becomes a problem when one-half of a couple is not going to be available to you.”

Of course, the show could have recast or brought back Kate Mansi who won a Daytime Emmy award for the role. He said, “Well, that is an option because there have been two successful Abigails that have been embraced by the audience. Kate has been willing to come back, but may not necessarily want to come back on contract, so you risk being in the exact same position that then Kate leaves and what do we do?
