The Daytime Emmy Awards have always been a huge deal, especially for the actors who bring our favorite soap characters to life day in and day out. Every year, we see familiar faces get their well-deserved nominations. But just as often, some names are noticeably—and shockingly—missing.

This year, two of the most shocking snubs were Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie, Days of Our Lives) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki, The Young and the Restless). Both delivered some of the most powerful performances of their careers in 2024

Let’s start with Susan.

Hayes had a storyline that mirrored her own devastating reality. She lost her husband in real life, the legendary Bill Hayes, and then had to grieve his character, Doug Williams, on-screen. Imagine the emotional weight of mourning both your real-life love and your fictional soulmate—on camera. And still, she delivered. She did it with grace, power, and unbelievable emotional honesty. Her scenes brought many to tears.

Some may even wonder if Hayes even submitted, but according to Amy Jean Shaughnessy, she submitted in the Lead Actress category. Her reel included scenes from Doug’s death and funeral. And in a post on X, Shaughnessy said:

“She filmed a death scnee with a body double 3 months afyer lying next to her actual husband in a hospice bed and saying goodbye to him.” Jean added, “NO one dserved a nomination this year mroe than Susan Seaforth Hayes or her absolutely brilliant performance processing and livng throguh Bill hayes’ and Doug Williams’ death. She did what most actors never have to do; she exposed her soul and shared her real life rie with the entire daytime audience. It was raw, real, and MORE than worty of an Emmy nomination.”

Couldn’t agree more.

Even Days castmate Cherie Jimenez (Gabi) chimed in, saying:

“No disrespect to all the incredibly talented women who are nominated, but I find it incredibly hard to believe that our Queen Susan Hayes was not nominated for her incredible performance this past year. With that said congratulations to all these beuatiful women.”

And then there’s Melody Thomas Scott.

Last year, she was front and center on Y&R, portraying Nikki Newman’s relapse into alcoholism while battling a relentless enemy in Jordan. She tackled one of the most emotionally draining storylines of her career. That standalone episode alone? Emmy reel material if we’ve ever seen it. The vulnerability, the intensity—she was in it. If there was ever a year for Melody to be nominated, this was it.

But… nothing.

How do you overlook two women who gave everything they had on screen? Especially when daytime actors are putting in wild hours—sometimes shooting multiple episodes a day, memorizing over 100 pages of dialogue, and often nailing it in one take. The work is nonstop.

And yet, here we are. No Susan. No Melody. What went wrong?

So, how are you feeling about these two Emmy snubs? Were you as surprised (and honestly, disappointed) as we were? Let us know in the comments. Let’s give these legendary ladies the love they so clearly earned. (Photo: CBS/NBC.)
