Back in November 2024, General Hospital alum Nicholas Alexander Chavez — best known for his Emmy-winning role as Spencer Cassadine — was announced as part of the cast for I Know What You Did Last Summer, the latest installment in the iconic slasher franchise. The movie hits theaters on July 18, but there’s something many didn’t see coming.

Despite being cast and filming scenes for the sequel, Chavez’s role was ultimately cut from the final version of the movie. And he wasn’t the only one. The Summer I Turned Pretty star Lola Tung was also edited out, even though both she and Chavez were originally part of the film’s opening sequence.

Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson explained the decision in an interview with PEOPLE.

“In every movie, it’s best laid plans, and then you edit the movie and you put it together and you go, ‘I love this in a vacuum. This is a fantastic scene. But it doesn’t fit in the movie.”

She was quick to clarify that the decision had nothing to do with the actors themselves.

“It was just one of those situations where it had nothing to do with Lola and Nicholas — they are both so fantastic.”

While she loved working with them and admits they did a fantastic job, she adds, “But in the larger tapestry of the film, it just didn’t fit.”

With I Know What You Did Last Summer releasing in theaters July 18, some fans — especially those from the General Hospital community — might be disappointed not to see Chavez in the final cut.
