Trisha Mann-Grant and Colby Nixon are gifts to the soap genre.

Both actresses, who play Leslie Thomas and Kat Richardson, respectively, on Beyond the Gates, delivered absolute powerhouse performances this week and have earned Soap Opera News’ Performers of the Week honors for June 15-19.

Let’s talk about what went down.

Who would’ve thought that when this new soap opera was first announced, we’d be gifted a wig-wearing, name-changing, often comedic yet deeply complex character like Dana “Leslie” Thomas? Or a confident, sleuthing force like Kat Richardson? Yet here we are.

A tornado ripped through the Fairmont Crest Country Club, leaving devastation in its wake. But out of that destruction came some of the most raw, gripping television Beyond the Gates has delivered so far.

As Eva fought for her life in the hospital, Mann-Grant and Nixon left viewers emotionally wrecked. We were!

The emotional heavy lifting between these two actresses was nothing short of spectacular.

Trisha Mann-Grant Showed a Completely Different Side of Leslie

Trisha Mann-Grant has spent more than a year building Leslie into one of daytime’s most fascinating characters.

Leslie is often scheming, manipulating situations, or avoiding painful truths about herself. But when Eva was rushed into emergency surgery following the wall collapse, every layer of Leslie’s armor cracked.

The fierce and calculating woman we’ve come to know suddenly disappeared. Instead, we saw a terrified mother facing the possibility of losing her daughter.

For perhaps the first time, Leslie found herself in a situation she couldn’t talk her way out of, scheme her way through, or control.

Then Kat walked into the hospital room.

When Leslie lashed out at Kat, accusing her of never liking Eva and questioning why she was even there, it wasn’t just another soap opera confrontation. It was a mother’s overwhelming fear spilling out as anger.

The transition from defensive rage to complete emotional vulnerability was beautifully executed. When Leslie finally admitted how terrified she was to simply sit and wait, Mann-Grant delivered an unforgettable performance.

You could feel every ounce of her fear.

Colby Nixon Delivered Some of Her Strongest Work Yet

On the other side of the story was Colby Nixon, who delivered some of the strongest work we’ve seen from Kat Richardson to date.

Kat is usually confident, outspoken, and not afraid to ruffle some feathers. She’s the kind of person who says what needs to be said, whether people want to hear it or not.

But everything changed after being trapped with Eva during the tornado.

One of Nixon’s powerful moments came during Kat’s emotional confession to Chelsea and Tomás.

As Kat broke down in tears and admitted she would’ve been so much kinder to Eva in that stairwell had she known what was coming, Nixon perfectly captured the guilt, regret, and heartbreak weighing on her character.

For one of the first times since the series began, viewers saw Kat stripped of her usual confidence and defenses.

Another standout moment came when Kat told a spiraling Leslie, “We will wait together.”

It was a simple line, but Nixon delivered it with so much sincerity that it felt like a turning point. In that moment, the walls between these two women seemed to soften, if only briefly.

Perhaps Nixon’s best work came when Kat and Martin clashed at the hospital.

As he laid into his sister for not rushing to get tested as a potential donor, Kat finally broke. The guilt, frustration, fear, and emotional exhaustion she had been carrying all week came pouring out.

It was the kind of scene that reminds us why we love Nixon in the role.

Top-Tier Talent

Together, Trisha Mann-Grant and Colby Nixon delivered the emotional heartbeat of the week. Their scenes were layered, authentic, and impossible to look away from. They elevated an already powerful story and reminded viewers just how effective daytime television can be when emotional storytelling is put in the hands of top-tier talent

  1. They’re both great but Colby is superstar material. She’s going to do big things in the industry. Give her all the Emmys.
