The Bold and the Beautiful viewers may have noticed something different about Liam Spencer in recent episodes. Specifically, fans may have spotted stitches above Liam’s eyebrow. As it turns out, the wound wasn’t makeup, and it wasn’t scripted. According to Scott Clifton, it was very real.
Scott Clifton Shares What Happened
The Emmy-winning actor took to Instagram with a carousel of photos and a warning for fans.
“GRAPHIC CONTENT! (Swipe for the gruesome stuff),” he wrote.
Clifton then addressed the injury that viewers had been seeing on-screen.
“Some of you may have noticed the stitches above Liam’s eyebrows in Friday’s and yesterday’s episodes of #boldandbeautiful (along with a few playful lines of dialogue between him and Wyatt about it),” he shared.
The actor went on to explain that life had unexpectedly imitated art.
A Frightening Fall at Home
According to Clifton, the accident happened after an extremely stressful day involving a family matter concerning his 81-year-old mother.
Unable to sleep, he got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. That’s when things took a dangerous turn.
“But something wasn’t quite right, and I could tell I was about to faint,” Clifton explained.
The next thing he remembers was waking up injured in his bathroom.
“I woke up slumped over the edge of the bathtub, upper body mangled inside of it with my feet draped outside. Blood everywhere, a splitting headache…”
When he finally made it to a mirror, he discovered what he described as a “giant hole” in his face.
A Trip to the Emergency Room
The actor spent the night in the emergency room, where doctors treated his injuries and ran scans.
He ultimately required stitches and was diagnosed with a concussion.
Doctors also warned him to expect temporary memory loss and cognitive sluggishness as part of the recovery process.
Given the severity of the injury, returning to work immediately wasn’t an option.
The Bold and the Beautiful Team Stepped Up
When producers learned what had happened, they quickly adjusted production plans to allow Clifton time to recover.
Rather than pushing him back to work, the show’s production team rewrote scenes and postponed filming where necessary.
Clifton praised producers Rachel Herman and Casey Kasprzyk for their support throughout the ordeal.
He also shared that his phone was flooded with messages from concerned cast and crew members checking in on him.
Grateful for the Support
While reflecting on the experience, Clifton made it clear how grateful he felt for the people around him.
“I am so sickeningly lucky to be a part of this team, this family, this wholly benevolent daytime empire,” he wrote.
He also thanked the show’s makeup department, on-set medic, producers, directors, and co-star Darin Brooks (who plays his brother Wyatt Spencer) for helping him through the unexpected situation.
Fortunately, Clifton is on the road to recovery.
