Chad Duell is leaving his role as Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, one he has played for the past 15 years. So far, what we do know about his exit is that his last airdate is sometime in the new year, and, well—the decision to go was his, but as for the why, we still didn’t know until now thanks to the latest Daily Drama podcast hosted by his GH colleagues Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).
Getting right into the mix of things, Duell opened up about his break from the show thus far. He shared, “A lot of stuff has been going on in my life—a lot has happened in my life—this break—there are a few things behind it. One thing I’d just say—as people know, my dad passed away, and I’m still coming to terms with that, and, also, my intention was to spend some time back in Arizona, but that’s becoming a little harder to do.” He explains that Luana is going to school and his son Dawson is doing daycare in Arizona. He added, “Right now I’m just more about doing things mentally and physically, preparing myself for whatever comes next chapters.”
Chad Duell Opens Up About His Decision to Leave GH
As noted by GH EP Frank Valentini, the door has been left open for more Michael in the future. Chad Duell commented, “We’ll see what happens in the future, but right now I’m just trying to grow in ways that maybe I feel like I stifled myself in certain aspects.” He continued, “Sometimes you have to take drastic steps or make yourself feel uncomfortable to take a step, and that’s kind of what I have not allowed myself to do. Duell notes, “I have a few things planned I want to do for myself.”
Duell admits he knows it’s going to be a process going forward, but he explains, “There’s a lot of work I have to do to achieve the potential I know that I have—not just career-wise but in a lot of aspects.” He also made mention of his skin care line, Pura Beauty, launched with his real-life girlfriend, Luana!
