This week marks the 10th anniversary of Phoebe Forrester’s death on the Bold and the Beautiful. Phoebe had an on-screen mention this week and is this week’s Throwback.
Phoebe was born on screen in 1999 to father, Ridge Forrester, and mother, Taylor Hayes Forrester, (who almost died in giving birth) with twin sister, Stephanie “Steffy” Forrester. Phoebe was SORAS and recast multiple times. In real time, Phoebe was alive for less than ten years. But she lived a full soap life.
Phoebe’s parents like some/a lot of parents (real and especially reel) got together and broke-up many times. But Phoebe, even her younger life, was much more complicated. At the tender age of two, Phoebe had to try and understand that sister Steffy was dead and had gone to heaven. But sister Steffy had a soap resurrection at the age of two (kind of). She wasn’t dead, She was kidnapped by Ridge’s ex-flame, Morgan DeWitt. Steffy and Taylor were saved by Ridge from near death at the hands of Morgan.
That wouldn’t be Phoebe’s only “dead not really dead” experience. Can’t soaps just let kids be kids? Lol. Taylor was thought to be dead, killed by Shelia Carter. But turned up very much alive and reclaimed her life. But after Taylor “died” a second time, Phoebe and Steffy left for boarding school. Wouldn’t you?
In 2006, Phoebe came home (Steffy stayed in London). One night Phoebe got a flat tire and her Aunt Darla (“Uncle Thorne’s” wife) came to help. Aunt Darla, while helping, was struck and killed by a drunken driver on the road. Taylor was the driver. Welcome back, Phoebe.
Phoebe, Stephanie Forrester (Phoebe’s grandmother), Hector Ramirez (who wanted Taylor for himself) and Taylor all knew the truth but kept it a secret. Taylor cracked under the guilt, confessed and went to jail. She was freed when, Shane McGrath, a witness to the accident, testified that he had seen Darla fall back on the road into the path of Taylor’s vehicle.
Things got even more um, interesting for Phoebe. Phoebe fell for “Uncle Rick” and he fell for her. Yes. Yes. Yes, not her Uncle by blood. But still, they were family, right? That’s a lot (not a little) of too close for comfort. The families were a big no to the couple. But Rick and Phoebe forged ahead together despite their families disapproval.
The actors who played Phoebe (MacKenzie Mauzy) and Rick (Kyle Lowder), at that time, were both singers in real life. Bold gave the actors/singers a music-related storyline. Constantine Maroulis (from American Idol) was cast as, music promoter, Constantine Parros, the third angle of the triangle. All three sang on the show. Bold also aired a special concert featuring MacKenzie, Kyle, Constantine, Elliott Yamin and John McLaughlin.
It wouldn’t be the family who broke up the Flowers in the Attic pair. It was Phoebe when she found out that Rick had slept with Ashley Abbott. And just when Phoebe wanted Rick back, he had fallen for someone else. Mommy Taylor, Rick’s ex-sister in law (no worries about blood there). Phoebe walked in on “Mommy Taylor” and “Uncle Rick” in bed. Phoebe took the high road. She told mommy she wouldn’t stand in the way of her happiness. Little did Phoebe know the only happiness Taylor was interested in, was “screwing over” Brooke (her nemesis) by “screwing” her son, Rick. Constantine was still around and could have picked up Phoebe’s pieces. But Phoebe bounced again this time she left to go on tour. Wouldn’t you?
Phoebe returned home for Ridge and Brooke’s wedding. Mommy Taylor and Uncle Rick were no longer a thing. Good news? Well…..twin sis Steffy told twin sis Phoebe that Rick tried to complete the trifecta (Mom and two daughters) and made a move on Steffy. That time Phoebe wasn’t feeling so magnanimous. Phoebe had had enough. She was done. She was convinced Rick had used her, her mom and that Steffy was next. She felt all Rick’s “affections” had just been to get back at her father, his brother (not by blood I just have to keep typing that for my own sanity lol), Ridge.
Phoebe went ballistic on Rick. She let him have it in his office. And when Rick tried to escape, she followed him to his car and got in it with him. While Ridge drove to the wedding rehearsal, Phoebe screamed, hit him and was in a rage. In her fury, she inadvertently put her foot on top of Rick’s (while on the gas). Rick lost control of the car and there was a horrific car crash.
Rick managed to walk to Eric’s to get help. Ridge went to the scene of the accident. Phoebe was barely hanging on. She lived just long enough to sing to her daddy the song she wrote for Ridge and Brooke’s wedding and died in Ridge’s arms. Sob. Sob.
