Happy Thursday fans! Welcome again to our characters of the past column where we look at characters that were once present on our daytime soap operas. Today, we are looking at EJ DiMera who was played by James Scott from 2006 – 2014.
When the character was reintroduced this time as a rapidly aged version with Scott in the role in 2006, he was immediately taken with Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) with whom they later became one of the most popular pairings on the show. When Sami needed help in saving Lucas (Bryan Datillo), EJ who was to assist her forced her into having sex with him in exchange for his help to save Lucas. As a result of their sexual encounter, Sami gave birth to a son, Johnny. They later got married but it was only so that EJ could stay in the country after having problems with immigration.
During his time with Sami, his relationship was tested by several obstacles which include Sami’s nemesis, Nicole Walker (ex-Arianne Zucker) and Sami’s relationship with Rafe (Galen Gering). At one point, EJ had also married Nicole Walker who caused him much heartache when she was pregnant for him and miscarried, fake her pregnancy and took someone else’s baby to pass off as theirs.
Apart from his marriages to Nicole and Sami, EJ had flings with Abigail Deveraux (ex-Kate Mansi), Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) and Taylor Walker (ex-Natalia Livingston). In October 2014, while married to Sami, the character was killed off as he was shot by his disloyal bodyguard which was hired by Clyde Weston (ex-James Read). The character of EJ is constantly mentioned on the show even though he’s absent from the canvas, even so, that Will Horton has been brainwashed to believe he is EJ DiMera. So, fans do you miss the character? Although James Scott currently has no desire to return to the show, should the show recast the role? Is it time for EJ to come home?
