The Days of Our Lives family is mourning the loss of Bobby Hart, the last surviving composer behind the show’s beloved and iconic theme music. Hart passed away this week on Wednesday in Los Angeles at the age of 86. His work has opened every episode of Days for decades and has become one of the most recognizable melodies in daytime television soap opera.
Taking to their official social media pages, the accounts for the show wrote, “We are saddened by the passing of Bobby Hart, the last of the legendary songwriters who co-wrote the iconic Days of our Lives theme music. He was predeceased by Charles Albertine (1986) and Tommy Boyce (1994). Their legacy will live on for us and for our fans with each and every episode.”
Who Was Bobby Hart?
Bobby Hart was born Robert Luke Harshman in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1939. From a young age, he showed a natural talent for music—playing piano and writing songs as a teenager.
In 1959, he teamed up with fellow musician and songwriter Tommy Boyce. Together, they formed the duo Boyce and Hart, and quickly became a driving force in the pop music scene of the early 1960s.
Their work helped shape the sound of the era. They wrote and produced multiple hits for the fictional TV band The Monkees, leaving a lasting mark on pop culture.
In the 1970s, Hart collaborated with Charles Albertine and Tommy Boyce once again—this time to create what would become one of daytime television’s most iconic theme songs: “Through the Days of Our Lives.” The haunting melody first aired in 1971 and continues to open episodes of Days of Our Lives to this day.
