Al Calderon, best known for playing Javi Hernandez on Days of our Lives, is officially scrubbing in for Season 2 of NBC’s Brilliant Minds. But this isn’t just a guest spot. According to Deadline, Calderon is joining as a series regular.
Season 2 of the high-profile primetime drama is set to premiere this September. Calderon will star alongside fellow new regulars Brian Altemus and John Clarence Stewart.
Brilliant Minds is inspired by the life and work of famed author and neurologist Dr. Oliver Sacks. The show follows Dr. Oliver Wolf, a bold and unconventional neurologist, and his team of interns as they dive deep into the mysteries of the human mind. Along the way, they navigate personal relationships and mental health challenges, both inside and outside the hospital.
Deadline says that Calderon is set to play Nurse Scotty Silva, the glue that keeps Bronx General running smoothly. Charismatic and charming, Scotty’s the kind of guy who knows everything about everyone and somehow makes it all look easy. Around the hospital, he’s known as the unofficial Mayor of Bronx General—and he definitely lives up to the title.
After the news dropped, Calderon shared his excitement on Instagram. His post read: “Hold up, lemme get my scrubs on right quick. Big thanks to my crew, my village, my gang—literally couldn’t do this without my right hand…” as he went out to give huge shoutouts.
Calderon is a bilingual actor, singer, and dancer. He’s no stranger to the stage or screen, with past credits including The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and Ryan Murphy’s Grotesquerie. Congrats, Al! (Photo: Peacock.)
