Beloved Days of Our Lives actress Suzanne Rogers, who has portrayed Maggie Horton for the last 52 years, has revealed that she was diagnosed with Stage II colorectal cancer this year.
According to a report from TV Insider, Rogers—one of DAYS’ most cherished leading ladies—shared that her health journey began when she sensed something “wasn’t quite right” and scheduled a doctor’s appointment.
Although she had been receiving regular colonoscopies, she was sent for another. After reviewing the results, her surgeon told her:
“I want you to have an MRI and a PET scan, and I’m going to do a biopsy.”
Rogers said she knew at that moment that “it was something more.”
Following the biopsy, her worst fears were confirmed: she had been diagnosed with Stage II colorectal cancer.
Rogers began treatment shortly after wrapping filming at Days of Our Lives on June 13, 2025. Fortunately, the show’s summer hiatus worked in her favor, allowing her to undergo treatment without her absence being heavily noticed on-screen.
During that time, she turned to her onscreen daughter, Linsey Godfrey (Sarah), who faced her own cancer battle and survived. Godfrey, alongside Paul Telfer (Xander), has been nothing but supportive.
She completed her treatment on July 31, 2025, and is now on the road to recovery.
“I’m feeling good. I start back to work next week, so we’ll see how that goes,” Rogers shared.
Because Days of Our Lives films several months in advance, fans can expect a stretch of episodes in 2026 where Maggie Horton will not be onscreen.
