Legendary actor and comedian Dick Van Dyke has etched his name in history by winning the 2024 Daytime Emmy award for guest performer in a daytime drama series, courtesy of his appearance as Timothy Robicheaux on “Days of Our Lives.” At the remarkable age of 98, Van Dyke secured his position as the oldest actor to ever receive a Daytime Emmy win. Prior to this achievement, Van Dyke had already set a record as the oldest Daytime Emmys nominee.

In his speech, Dick Van Dyke said, “I feel like a spy from nighttime television. I’m the oldest nominee in history. I can’t believe it. I was playing old men all my life. If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!” Van Dyke also praised Drake Hogestyn (John Black), who played an integral part in helping him land a role on the Peacock soap opera.

Van Dyke has been the recipient of five Primetime Emmys, a Tony, a Grammy, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards’ first night unfolded live on CBS, June 7, at the Westin Bonaventure hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, further solidifying Van Dyke’s legacy in the entertainment industry.
