It’s Kelly Monaco and Sam McCall’s “Crystal” Anniversary at General Hospital!
Eighteen years ago today (October 1), Sam McCall went searching for the “Dead Man’s Hand” and landed in Port Charles. Under Kelly’s mastery, Sam, a once rebellious con has emerged as a poised self-assured woman. But my goodness, it hasn’t been a cakewalk for our Sam. She’s been kidnapped, held hostage, stabbed, shot and raped. And that just might be half of it.
But Sam has given just as good as she has gotten, she’s conned, stolen, slept with her mother’s husband, did nothing while the love of her life’s son was being kidnapped, and hired someone to terrorize Elizabeth and her children. Whew! Yet Soapy! Aren’t mutli-dimensional characters the best?!
For the last number of years, Sam has been paired with the cream of the yum yum crop; Ric Lansing, Jason Morgan, Patrick Drake and Andrew Cain. What a life.
But let’s get real here. The most pressing question remains unanswered. Who will Sam end up with? (as much as you can ever really end up with someone on a soap.) Jasam or Dream; to be or not to be THAT is the question. We will be glued to our televisions whenever that is finally revealed.
The daytime family met Kelly in 1999 when she was cast in the ABC Soap Opera Port Charles (nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series). She has also earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for General Hospital.
Kelly is famous outside of daytime for being the first star to win the popular reality TV competition series Dancing with the Stars, in 2005.
As an addendum, who can “werk” a black leather jacket, tee, jeans and spike heels like her? Nobody.
