Happy Saturday soap fans! On this day in soap history back in 2014, Gina Tognoni made her debut as Phyllis Summers on ‘The Young and the Restless’. In scenes, Phyllis’ eyes began twitching. Phyllis was in a coma due to falling down a flight of stairs when the role was last played by Michelle Stafford. Phyllis after waking from the coma escaped the clinic and made her way back to Genoa City to crash Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon’s (Sharon Case) wedding. This had to do with Summer’s (Hunter King) true paternity. While many were shocked but yet thrilled to have Phyllis back, Kelly (Cady McClain), Jack’s (Peter Bergman) new woman at the time was not.
It’s been 4 years since Tognoni’s debut. She has received 2 Daytime Emmy Award nominations winning the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a drama series in 2017.
