Josh Griffith’s Successful Career
Griffith is a seven-time Daytime Emmy award winner, who is no stranger to the genre, having served in a number of capacities for other soaps prior to his extensive career at the CBS daytime drama.
Let’s roll back the curtain. Griffith’s career actual beganin 1988 when he was a writer for Santa Barbara. He would then move on to become associate head writer at One Life to Live before he transitioned to the role of co-head writer in 1992. He departed the ABC daytime drama back in 1994 and would soon return, this time, to co-create Sunset Beach alongside Robert Guza Jr. in 1997.
Griffith also worked on As the World Turns before returning to Y&R as a writer and co-executive producer. His resume also includes his tenure at Days of Our Lives, where he was co-head writer from 2015 to 2016.
His Return to Genoa City
He then made a return to his old stomping grounds at the CBS soap where he served as supervising producer in 2018.
Following Mal Young’s departure as head writer in 2019, Griffith stepped into the role and remained there for the past seven years.
More recently, it was announced that Sally McDonald would become executive producer after Griffith stepped down from that position to focus exclusively on his writing duties.
TV Insider reports, “Griffith continues in the role for now. There is no word yet on who will be tapped as his successor.”
Behind-the-scenes changes like this are nothing new in daytime television.
In fact, Days of Our Lives recently announced that Ryan Quan would be taking over as co-head writer, showing just how frequently creative teams evolve across the genre.
Now, all eyes turn to The Young and the Restless as fans wait to see who will take over one of the most important jobs behind the scenes.
Who would you like to see become the next head writer of The Young and the Restless? And were you enjoying Josh Griffith’s run on the show?
