The Young and the Restless is going through another big change, but this time it is happening behind the cameras. According to Soap Central, the CBS soap has promoted Sally McDonald to be the show’s only Executive Producer. This news comes as Josh Griffith decided to step down from that role, though he is staying on as the head writer.
You might remember that just last year, it was reported that Griffith and McDonald were actually working together as co-executive producers. It turns out that Griffith chose to leave the producer position so he could focus entirely on his writing duties. Both of these industry veterans have a very long history with the show, so the series is in good hands.
Sally McDonald’s Impressive Career
Sally McDonald actually started her journey at CBS as a production supervisor. Later on, she became a director for Y&R. During her time there, she has been incredibly successful.
She won eight Daytime Emmys for her work on the directing team and even earned a Directors Guild of America Award. She definitely knows the show inside and out, which makes her the perfect fit to lead the team as the sole Executive Producer.
Josh Griffith Stays Focused on the Story
On the other hand, Josh Griffith has been writing for soaps since way back in 1988. His resume is huge, with credits on famous shows like Santa Barbara, As the World Turns, One Life to Live, and General Hospital. He has even worked on Days of Our Lives.
Over his long career, he has won seven Daytime Emmys and four Writers Guild awards. By stepping back from his producing duties, he can now put all of his energy into the scripts and storylines we see every day. You can keep catching new episodes of The Young and the Restless every weekday on CBS!
