Al Calderon absolutely slayed it this week. He brought the house down, literally, as Javi Hernandez on Days of Our Lives and has been named Soap Opera News’ Performer of the Week for January 5–9, 2026. So, let’s talk about what went down.

What Happened on Days of Our Lives?

This week, Javi and Leo tied the knot in the town square, surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones, with Dr. Marlena Evans officiating. Everything seemed to go smoothly until it didn’t. The vows, the outfits, and the entire ceremony was packed with emotional beats, but then came that shocking aftermath. The wedding stopper. And that’s where Al Calderon truly got his moment to shine.

Just as Leo and Javi were about to leave the town square and head into what was supposed to be their happily ever after, trouble arrived in the form of Dimitri von Leuschner.

Dimitri wasted no time dropping a bomb, telling Leo that everything he believed, including that letter, was a lie. Leo stood firm, insisting none of it mattered. Javi was who he chose, who he married, and who he wanted a future with.

Al Calderon’s Outstanding Performance

Then came the gut punch. Javi shocked Leo by pointing out that since they weren’t legally married yet, Leo should take time to figure out his feelings, and Javi would step away for now. It clearly hurt Javi to say it, but he believed he was doing the right thing.

Moments later, Javi was alone in the park, breaking down, heartbroken, and overwhelmed by everything that had just happened. Calderon played those scenes flawlessly. He hit every emotional beat needed to bring Javi’s pain and anguish to life. He didn’t miss a thing. Even later, as a disappointed and drunken Javi, the emotion still landed.

What a performance! What an actor!

Well done, Al. Congratulations on being named Performer of the Week. This one was earned.
