Mike Manning did the werk!
We’ve got to give it up for Mike Manning—he absolutely crushed it as Smitty on Beyond the Gates during the week of July 7–11.
This week, Smitty was back in full investigative mode, trusting his gut and chasing leads like a pro—with help from Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges), of course. Mike was on fire, especially in the July 9 episode, where Smitty started to suspect that everything he’s been uncovering might somehow be tied to Martin.
Smitty came home to find Martin deep in a nightmare, clutching a baseball on the couch. That’s when things got real. Smitty could tell something’s seriously wrong and pleaded with Martin to open up. But Martin, clearly weighed down by guilt, just couldn’t bring himself to say what’s going on.
Those scenes hit hard. The emotion was raw, honest, and incredibly well-played. Mike and Brandon Claybon (who plays Martin) have such natural chemistry, especially in these emotionally charged moments.
You could see it all in Mike’s eyes: a well of tears, intensity, and vulnerability that pierced right through the screen. We felt that.
Mike Manning left it all on the screen this week—and we felt every second of it. Congratulations on being named Performer of the Week—you absolutely earned it! (Photo: Quantrell Colbert/CBS.)
