Alison Sweeney returned to Days of Our Lives this week as Sami Brady, and though it was just for one episode, she packed it with heart, soul, and every ounce of emotion. That’s exactly why she’s been chosen as Soap Opera News’ Performer of the Week for August 4 to 8, 2025.
What Happened on Days of Our Lives
Sami wasn’t able to make it back in time for John’s funeral or the wake. She had stayed behind due to an accident involving Sydney, but this week, she finally made her way home to Salem. What followed was a powerful and emotional reunion between Sami and her mom, Marlena, as they came together to mourn the loss of beloved John Black.
During their scenes, Sami opened up about the deep impact John had on her life. Through tears, she reflected on their bond and admitted, “He was bigger than life.” She mentioned that she will never forget how he made her feel. Though she thought she didn’t deserve it, he made her feel loved and respected.
Later, in a moment alone, Sami took a photo of John, sat on the couch, and made a promise. Her words were simple but devastating: “John, you can rest easy, knowing we’re all here. And we’re going to take care of Mom, for you. I just want you to know that you will always, always live in my heart. And that’s a fact.”
That final line hit hard because “that’s a fact” is an iconic John Black signature, and longtime viewers absolutely felt the weight of that callback.
Alison Sweeney and Deidre Hall brought the grief, the history, and the love to life in a way that was raw, moving, and unforgettable. The performance took us straight to tears land, feels land, and back again.
