Jane Elliot is a master in daytime drama, and if anyone was unsure, this week’s episode served as a reminder as she navigated the world of soap opera shenanigans as Tracy Quartermaine on General Hospital.

Elliot has been playing the role of Tracy since 1978! In this week’s emotional scenes at the Quartermaine mansion, Tracy went toe-to-toe with Sonny and Carly! While Monica, who was upstairs was not doing well, Sonny barged in, trying to talk Tracy into handing over his grandkids to Willow so he and Carly could see a badly burned Michael at the hospital. Tracy, however, was having none of it. She reminded him this is all Drew’s fault and declared the kids were going nowhere!

Then Jason came in, echoing Sonny’s request, but Tracy stood her ground! She looked deep into Jason’s eyes and implored him not to break his mother’s heart and, for once, to prioritize family over Sonny. In a moment that took many by surprise, Jason told Sonny he couldn’t take the children away from Monica, as she needed them.

Jane Elliot is undeniably a national treasure; she was at the peak of her performance during these emotional scenes, earning her the title of Soap Opera News’ performer of the week—congratulations!
