The Bold and the Beautiful

Steffy told her parents, separately,  that Hope wanted Liam to be with her and the girls. We got a kick out of Taylor’s reaction when Steffy told her she pushed back on the idea. Taylor was like, you did what??? One of our favorite lines of the week was when Steffy told Taylor, I’m not a victim and I don’t want anyone treating me like one. Bravo Steffy. Xander and Zoe shared a romantic evening. It was a good switch up. Auntie Katie took Hope out for a drink to get her out the cabin. At Bikini, Flo overheard a lady talking about Phoebe and Beth. And if she wasn’t sure, the credit card sealed that the lady was “that Hope.” Zoe almost popped another blood vessel when she saw Hope and Flo talking and it looked like Flo was ready to clear her conscious. Zoe instead told Hope that Flo was Phoebe’s birth mother. After Hope left, Zoe got up in Flo’s face and told her this why I told you to get out the kitchen (leave L.A.) because I knew you wouldn’t be able to stand the heat. Me and my daddy ain’t going up the river because you can’t handle the heat. Keep your trap shut.

Flo ran into Wyatt Fuller now known as Wyatt Spencer. Flo and Wyatt had a thing back in the day in Vegas. But Wyatt had to leave like a thief in the night because…well Quinn is his momma so maybe they left in the night because they were thieves. LOL. Wyatt invited his ex to a couple’s dinner party. Yeah, that’s different but we were glad he did. The dinner party was entertaining. Hope, Liam and Sally learned Flo and Wyatt were exes. Liam, Wyatt and Sally learned that Flo is Phoebe’s birth mom (which of course she isn’t). And Flo got to learn about everybody else’s family dynamics. One of our favorite scenes last week were between Flo and Hope at the dinner party. Flo became more remorseful about the part she played in Dr. Reese’s scheme. “Phoebe’s mom” had a face. She was a real person to Flo now. She had a real face with real pain and was still really grieving. And Hope was sharing her pain and her gratitude to a woman whose sacrifice, to the best of her knowledge (giving her baby up), had become a lifeline to Hope in one of the darkest times of her life. Phoebe has given her joy in the midst of her intense grief. Good stuff.

General Hospital

Before we recap we must first give big kudos to GHGH gave us a whole week of good soap. Robert and Sonny were still in Turkey looking for Dante. Maxie snapped a lock of Sasha’s hair for another DNA test. There must be a twist because Valentin was really close by and Maxie is smarter than that.  Kim and Julian got it on on the bar stool. But the real action was all up in Alexis’ mind. Julexis fans were reminded of what they are missing. Hang in there Julexis stans they say dreams really do come true. Oscar’s car caught a flat and the teens got stuck in Niagara Falls. Oscar was upset at Cam’s driving that caused the flat. But that didn’t last long when he thought of the potential of an overnight stay.  Oscar had ideas. But his tumor had other ideas. Oscar had a seizure and the only ride he got was the one in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. Sorry y’all, I couldn’t resist.

Ryan gave Felicia a blast from the past that had her solving the Kevin mystery before everyone else. Franco and Jordan both woke up. For Franco, good news he was no longer a suspect. Jordan got the, we got good news and bad news. Which one you want first? Yes, the real killer has been identified. But you need a kidney transplant and will need dialysis until you get one. Jordan and Curtis ain’t had no good luck since they found a dead Kiki in their honeymoon suite. None. Kevin and Laura found a secret passageway and escaped the Ferncliff basement. Laura told Chase (which he should have already figured out) “The killer is Ryan Chamberlain!” Word spread that all of PC had been duped for months by Ryan. Kevin underwent surgery to restore his eyesight.

Jason figured out Ryan had Carly. Jason and Laura went to find Carly and warn Ava. Ava saw Carly tied and bound in the trunk of Ryan’s car and freaked out. Ryan told her, “oh the surprise is ruined but here’s your wedding gift.” Ava’s face, when she realized “Kevin” wasn’t playing with a full deck, was all kinds of brilliant. Jason and Laura ran upon Rava. Jason shot and struck Ryan first and asked questions later. That’s what we are talking about. Laura said frantically to Ava; “Ava, Ava it’s Ryan!”. Ava’s response, “No Laura it’s okay it’s Kevin! He’s just having a mental breakdown at the moment.”  While they were going back and forth, Carly woke up from where Ryan dumped her. Get up, Carly! Run! That’s where Sam got her “disease” from LOL. Back on the bridge Ryan knowing he was cornered shifted to graveyard love mode. If he couldn’t have Ava, no one would. He threw himself and Ava over the bridge. The perfect cliffhanger Friday for a good week of soap.

The Young and the Restless

Summer; “Kyle, I’m a match!”
Kyle; “Great let’s go right over to the h-“
Summer; “Kyle, wait that’s a big de-.”
Kyle; “I’ll do anything. Marry me.”
Summer; Okay propose, one knee please.

Kyle and Summer agreed on marriage for one year, with no sex and no telling anyone about the quid pro deal. If Kyle doesn’t fall in love with Summer after the year; he’s free to leave in exchange; Lola lives. This should be interesting. Kerry swore her loyalty to Phyllis. Then went and swore her loyalty to Jack. But who is Kerry really working for?

The trial for the Murder Club minus one was center stage and we loved every minute of it. Soap trials, once a soap staple, now are used much less and when done can be meh. But not last week. From the opening arguments to closing ones, we were all in. The dialogue and the acting, superlative. Of course, we had to suspend some legal reality but overall we were happy soapers. Phyllis was grilled by Christine, Michael and Brittany. Our only complaint was Phyllis is smart and savvy and wouldn’t have been run over by three attorneys. After Phyllis’ testimony, Nikki and Victoria came partially clean to Michael and admitted everything Phyllis said was true. It sure would have been nice if they had told him everything. Michael thought he had something putting Tessa on the stand by offering the jury another possible suspect. But Christine had Tessa telling the courtroom that our Murder Club was also kidnappers.

After that Michael was ready to cut his losses and have his clients plead guilty with a reduced sentence. But Brittany was a no go saying “we are good over here.” And Christine was a no go stating she was going for it all. Brittany put Rey on the stand for Sharon’s defense that Rey had been grooming Sharon for months to trust him. And on VDay he went in for the kill. He laid the I Love You on her and the next thing you knew Sharon was in handcuffs. Christine rehabbed Rey as best she could that he just happened to see the phone bill, he did what any good detective would have done and it didn’t change the facts of the case. Christine went in on Rey after his testimony. When Rey and Mia went home they had it out. Rey wanted out. He told Mia, I can’t fake it anymore. I love Sharon. I can’t forgive that you slept with my brother, you still have feelings for him and my sister is in the hospital because of you. I’ll keep your secret but we are over. Mia begged and begged but Rey wouldn’t budge. Nick all of a sudden was convinced JT is alive. For us, that was the first handprint we recognized of Josh Griffith. Good move. Laurelee, Christian and Lauren were all so good. We just wanted to give them a specific shout out.

Days of Our Lives

Shabe’s hands touched. What is taking so long? We are ready for Shabe. Haley successfully stayed ahead of JJ, Elani and the authorities. Tripp, Ciara and Claire agreed Haley could hide out at the loft. Somebody should have asked Claire to turn around because she must have had her fingers crossed behind her back. Just like they were crossed when she lied to Tripp that she had developed the bad habit of smoking (which was why the lighter was in her jewelry box) instead of the habit of fire starter. Claire is an entire mood. She smiled all up in Haley’s face and went running to Eve and told Eve just where to find her. Kate warned Rafe to keep an eye on Ted around his wife. Rafe almost punched Ted. Jarlena was busy last week. They stole Leo’s toothbrush for a DNA test.  John went to Diana’s room to try and crack the safe that housed the leverage they need on Leo. Friday ended with Leo on the other side of the door to Diana’s room. Ben broke Ciara’s and our hearts. He told Ciara he’s no good for her. Ciara cried and we cried. Sniff. Ben agreed to go back to work for Stefan on one condition; no violence. His first assignment was to protect Chloe. Brady was ahead of Stefan in that department and had already hired someone. But when Chloe almost blew his head off thinking he was trying to hurt her she was none too happy with Brady. Gabi wasn’t happy when she walked in on Chloe and Stefan kissing. She dropped that nugget to Brady. Now, Gabi and Brady are teaming up to destroy Stefan.

Diana’s plan to break up Jarlena over Leo’s paternity was a dud. Diana upped the ante and figured she’d just take Marlena out altogether. Diana dreamed of all the ways that her dream could come true; lightning, chocolate covered strawberries, airplane crash, great white, running with the bulls and getting run over by a truck. In the end, she used the day player nurse and her desire to get Haley out of the country to access Marlena’s medical records. Death by penicillin would be her weapon of choice. Jack and Eve crashed the fundraiser for homeless shelters. Jack officially announced his candidacy for Mayor and put immigration to the forefront of the race. He vowed to put the residents of Salem first and that if elected Haley would be deported. JJ threw his support behind Abe to stop Jack from becoming Mayor.

Performers of the Week

Our Performer of the Week is Amelia Heinle (Victoria, Young and the Restless)!
Thank you, Michael Baldwin, for changing your legal strategy and putting domestic violence on trial. We love reel being real. Hearing Victoria recall what happened with the flashbacks was chilling and reminded us how good Amelia was during the domestic abuse storyline. We always talk about ranges of acting. Amelia gave us a lesson in how less can be much more. Her voice never rose above an inside voice. But it was the emotion in and behind her voice and on her face that demonstrated the depth of her pain, guilt and regret. What we loved most is it was evident that even with all that had transpired and with all the time that had passed (it’s been almost a year); Victoria is still struggling to come to terms with the abuse, her allowing it to happen and everything that happened since the night JT died. It was the perfect depiction of what victims of domestic abuse can go through in real life. And in soap terms it’s exactly how Victoria Newman (our “ice princess”) would act. Only Victoria Newman can appear aloof and still make you feel it in your bones at the same time. It was true to Victoria’s character and still gave a realistic and honest look into the minds and actions of abuse victims. Thank you Amelia for this compelling performance for such a relevant and serious topic.

Our Honorable Mention of the Week is Tyler Christopher (Stefan, Days of our Lives)!

Stefan! Stefan! Stefan! He came with it. I mean. He took Brady to task. He told Brady, look Chad is in Paris. I’m not Chad. If you want to come for me just be ready because I play for keeps. Yes! Next, he goes Casanova Brown on Chloe. He told Chloe you have a nice everything. Swoon. And then we got Stefan and Gabi. Hot. Hot. Smoking Hawt  He told Gabi, I know you want me. Swoon. Dead. Then when we could barely breathe from the Stabi heat; Stefan ran down Gabi’s love life, mocked her and even threw in some Spanish and we were dying laughing. The dialogue was good but Tyler gave the dialogue and us life! Tyler ran the Stefan gamut. He was a Dimera, Casanova Brown, smoking hawt and a comedian and all we could think is we want more! Mr. Christopher brought it. Well done, Tyler!
