It was another short week for the CBS soaps, thanks to the annual NCAA March Madness, which preempted episodes on Thursday and Friday. Still, even with fewer episodes, we were not short on drama. And The Young and the Restless gave us another performance for the history books. Susan Walters, who brings Diane Jenkins Abbott to life, is Soap Opera News’ Performer of the Week for March 16 through 20. Let’s talk about why.

Diane’s Worst Fear Comes True

Diane found herself in a nightmare situation after learning her husband had been kidnapped amid the ongoing corporate chaos involving Victor Newman, Phyllis, Cane, and Billy.

Diane knew one thing for sure. If the roles were reversed, Jack would stop at nothing to find her.

So she did the same.

With the help of her son Kyle and even Billy, Diane followed a lead that pointed to Jack being held on a yacht in the middle of Lake Michigan. And he was not alone. He was with someone from his past.

A Shocking Discovery

When Diane finally made it to the yacht, what she saw was not what she expected.

She found Jack in bed with Patty Williams.

That moment hit hard.

Deep down, Diane knew something was not right. She believed Jack would not betray her like that. But seeing it with her own eyes was a different story.

Even Jack’s explanation that he had been drugged did not sit right with her.

A Performance That Hit Every Note

This is where Susan Walters truly delivered.

You could feel every emotion Diane was going through. The hurt. The anger. The disbelief. The heartbreak.

It was all right there on screen. All on Walters’ face.

Walters did not hold anything back, and it showed. She took viewers on that emotional ride with her, and it landed.

Watching Diane break down made it impossible not to feel it too.

Diane Walks Away

And then came the moment that sealed it.

Diane returned home, packed her bags, and walked out of the Abbott mansion.

It was powerful. It was emotional. And it was unforgettable.

Susan Walters once again proved why she is such a force in daytime.

There is no question about it. This was a masterclass performance.

Congrats to Susan Walters on being named Performer of the Week.
