James Reynolds has been playing Abe Carver on Days of Our Lives since 1981. Abe has never been married on-screen, but that will change this week! Abe’s only marriage on the show was to Lexie (Renee Jones) but that marriage took place off-screen.
The new Days of Our Lives promo shows Abe and Paulina (Jackée Harry) getting married this week, specifically on Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.
Their wedding will celebrate African American traditions, such as jumping the broom. Enslaved people were not allowed to legally get married and the jumping the broom ceremony was a public declaration of settling down with someone. Eli (Lamon Archey) and Lani (Sal Stowers) did the same tradition at their wedding.
