General Hospital gives fans another behind-the-scenes featurette, and this time, Giovanni Mazza, who plays Gio Palmieri, is front and center, sharing the story behind Gio’s violin journey, both onscreen and off.
As viewers saw in the episode that aired on December 26, 2025, Gio attended the Quartermaine family Christmas gathering, where Leo, played by Easton Rocket Sweda, brought out a brand-new violin. The instrument was a planned gift from Gio’s grandfathers, but they were not quite ready to give it to him yet. They wanted to wait until Gio felt ready to play again.
Gio’s Nurses Ball Moment
The last time Gio picked up a violin was at the 2025 Nurses Ball in May, and that moment ended in heartbreak.
In the middle of his performance, Gio spilled the truth about his biological parents being Brook Lynn, played by Amanda Setton, and Dante, played by Dominic Zamprogna.
He exposed the truth right there on stage, smashed his violin, and stormed out. Since then, the instrument has become a powerful metaphor for Gio, representing his broken heart, broken family, and shattered sense of identity after realizing his entire life was built on a lie.
Giovanni Mazza Takes Us BTS
In the latest BTS clip, Giovanni Mazza opens up about how closely this storyline connects to him personally.
When he first auditioned for General Hospital, the producers already knew he played the violin and actually created the role with that talent in mind.
Mazza talks about his preparation process, including working closely with music director Paul Glass. He explains that he usually gets about three weeks’ notice to prepare a piece, which means slow, careful practice to nail the finger dexterity and emotion needed for each performance.
About His Violin Journey
And if you did not already know, Mazza’s musical background is seriously impressive. He started playing the violin at just three years old and began acting at seven.
As an entertainer, he has performed solo violin at a wide range of venues, including NBA All-Star Games, Major League Baseball games, and more than 35 NBA games at arenas like Staples Center, United Center, and Madison Square Garden.
At just 10 years old, he even performed at halftime of the Rising Stars Challenge during the 2016 NBA All-Star Game.
It is clear that Gio’s violin storyline is not just a plot device. It is deeply personal, both for the character and for the actor bringing him to life.
