Maurice Benard, who plays Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital, is talking about the new film Trials To Triumph, which he is also a part of!
Trials To Triumph is a documentary based on the book of the same name, written by and telling the story of Freddie Stevenson. Stevenson was an American football fullback who played college football at Florida State and signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent. His books tells the story of his rise from poverty and homelessness to a successful football career and then his transition to motivational speaker and best-selling author. Last year Stevenson told Soap Opera News, “I chose ‘Trials To Triumph‘ because of my life’s journey. I started off homeless and faced a lot of obstacles growing up but that didn’t stop me from accomplishing all of my dreams and more. We don’t always understand why we are facing struggles in life but if we stay the course, and keep believing, then in due time it will make sense for our purpose. We will take a deep dive into my story and some of the most inspirational stories of others.”
In a video posted to Twitter, Maurice Benard said, “I did a film called Trials To Triumph for Freddie Stevenson and I did it because I felt it was an important cause. I read his book and it was amazing, how he lived as a boy and where he ended up. And I just saw the film and it is amazing. I’m so proud of Freddie for doing the hard work, trying to help people and his wife is unbelievable. I told him that. She’s incredible, reminds me of my own wife. Go check it out, Trials To Triumph.”
The film is available at safirenetwork.com and it “follows the story of Freddie Stevenson from his meteoric rise through high school and college football to a chaotic life afterwards that led him to reinvent himself and rise up all over again. This documentary connects similar stories of struggle and redemption from motivational speaker, Tony Gaskins, General Hospital’s Maurice Benard, NFL and CFL player, Devin Breaux, and more. These stories are raw and uncut, just as they wanted to tell them. These conversations of the obstacles they faced and how they overcame them are powerful, real, and guaranteed to change your life.”
