Now that’s how you deliver a show-stopping reveal. Giovanni Mazza is Soap Opera News’ Performer of the Week for his powerhouse portrayal of Gio Palmieri on General Hospital. From a stirring musical performance to an explosive personal reckoning, Mazza delivered emotional fireworks that lit up the Nurses Ball—and left the viewers speechless. (We were speechless!)

What Happened with Gio on General Hospital

Gio began the week in the spotlight as the gifted violinist at the Nurses Ball, captivating the crowd with his talent. But the real crescendo came offstage — and later, onstage.

When Lulu, driven by a hunch that Brook Lynn’s son might be Gio, she decided to get to the bottom of things. To that end, she went straight to Lois and confronted her backstage at the event. Lulu laid out her findings, and despite Lois’s attempts to deflect and cover her tracks, Lulu’s determination did not waver.

As Lulu laid out point after point, Lois became visibly shaken. Tensions rose and they argued. Gio arrived backstage, gearing up for his next performance — but then, boom — his life was never the same. Gio overheard some key details and instead of letting them know he heard, he went off to sit by himself.

Emma found him and she could tell something was up, so she gently pressed for answers. But Gio promised that the show must go on.

The Onstage Reveal

So he went on stage to play his violin while Chase (Josh Swickard) and Anna (Finola Hughes) did their tango. However, when it came time to perform, Gio couldn’t bring himself to do it. After a few seconds of playing, he stopped. He stepped into the spotlight, violin in hand, and faced the stunned audience. His voice cut through the silence:

“Ladies and gentlemen, I just want to do something I’ve never done before. I’m going to dedicate this performance to my parents… Brook Lynn Quartermaine and Dante Falconeri. Two people who didn’t want me. Who didn’t claim me! They gave me away and have been lying to me my entire life!”

Giovanni Mazza is the Performer of the Week

Then, in a shocking, heart-wrenching moment, Gio raised his violin and shattered it on stage. With tears in his eyes and fury in his heart, he stormed out, leaving a trail of stunned silence behind him—the audience filled with jaws dropped and eyes wide open, shocked at what just happened!

Mazza delivered an outstanding performance with incredible depth—his anger, frustration, hurt, and disappointment were palpable. His performance was layered, raw, and riveting.

We certainly didn’t expect the reveal to unfold like this! What a performance! It was a revelation and a reminder of how powerful soap storytelling can be when firing on all cylinders. Bravo, Giovanni Mazza! Kudos to you for being named Soap Opera News’ performer of the week.

So what did you think of the performance?

Honorable Mentions:

Kudos also go to Days of Our Lives stars Paul Telfer and Linsey Godfrey for their emotionally charged work as Xander and Sarah. In a week full of tension and truth bombs, Sarah confronted Xander about the brutal beating of Philip. However, little did she know that Xander found out that she knew about the forged letter all along.

The result? A showdown full of raw emotion, searing accusations, and gut-wrenching performances. Whether you were cheering, crying, or tossing your remote at the screen, Telfer and Godfrey brought undeniable depth and electricity to every moment. Emmy-worthy, to say the least. One response to “Performer of the Week: GH’s Giovanni Mazza”

  1. Giovanni Mazza being listed as the Performer of the a month poll on Twitter is a joke. He had one fabulous 3 minutes scene in May and is violin playing doesn’t count as he’s a professional violinist. There are other actors or actresses who are more deserving as they delivered all month. This leaves me questioning Soap Opera News’ credibility.
