Hey, fam!
Sorry, we are getting the POW on Monday. My fault. It’s Mardi Gras here in New Orleans, LA. It’s my son’s last year in his high school marching band and this momma has been a busy bee.
Last week soapland was also busy busy busy. We had a debate, trial, alliances were formed, faux confession, stabbing, life-saving donor searches, a new Fashion House was born, live or memorex pregnancy, break-up, betrayals and a whole bunch of other good stuff. Let’s recap and crown.
The Young & The Restless
Phick started Genoa City’s week off with a drama filled face off. Phyllis defended herself and her actions rigorously to Nick. She was upset because no one believed she did what she thought was best when she told Christine the truth of what happened. She was trying to save Victoria, Nikki and Sharon. Nick fired back that his mother, sister and Sharon were all in jail because she was only thinking of herself. Nick declared he was done. They were done and for Phyllis to pack her bags and go. It took a few scenes but Jack was on board with Billy and Kyle to get Jabot back into the Abbott fold. Mia orchestrated a fake out using a day player’s urine to get a positive on her preggo test stick. And Rey (the same Rey who has been going on and on and on about truth and justice to the Murder Club) agreed to keep the secret that Mia pushed Lola thinking it was Abby. We were kind of confused. Rey agreed to keep Mia’s secret to protect his unborn child. But Nikki shouldn’t have protected her daughter of how many years?
Kyle and Arturo called a truce when Kyle went on GC Buzz and asked people to be tested to see if they were a match for a liver transplant for Lola. Rey, Arturo and Genoa City were negative negative negative. Summer was tested but the results weren’t back by the end of last week. Summer will be a match. What will she want from Kyle to save Lola’s life?
JT’s murder trial began. Victor had an expected outburst and got booted out of the courtroom. Michael warned Nick they were in for an uphill battle. Brittany advised her client, Sharon, to save herself and forget the Newmans’. We suspect pretty soon things are going to get very dicey on the defense side of the courtroom. There is nothing like a good soapy trial, especially a murder one. So far this one has two enthusiastic thumbs up. We loved that every character who should have been there was. The opening statements and the direct and cross examination of Mariah were realistic and the dialogue on point. Okay Y&R you have our attention!
The Bold and the Beautiful
Zoe almost popped a blood vessel when she saw that Flo was still in Los Angeles, had a new job and looked like she wasn’t leaving anytime soon. This um “situation” with Hope, Liam and Steffy continued. Steffy told Grandpa Eric that Hope wanted her and Liam to be together. Liam told Bill. Bill asked Liam if he wanted to be with Steffy. Steffy told Hope to let what happened bring her and Liam closer together and not tear them apart. Steffy told Hope keep your husband. On Thursday’s episode, we thought Hope had a breakthrough. But Friday Hope was back pushing her husband on another woman. Sigh. Again, we aren’t sure about this storyline. But we will be right here watching it unfold.
The news spread about the hottest new Fashion House in L.A at Spencer. Justin was team no. Eric was generous and wished Sally and Wyatt good luck. Quinn appeared gracious. But it’s Quinn so….Bill made a move on Katie, that didn’t take long. He made a move on Sally but not that kind of move. But this is Bill so that could be on the way soon. LOL. Bill reneged but just a bit. Bill would create a Fashion House as promised. But since it’s his money, his company and he is bearing all the liability, the company must bare his name. Bye-bye Spectra Fashions. Hello Spencer Fashions. Was this little renege the beginning of the real Bill Spencer returning? We sure hope so!
General Hospital
The week started with Jason and Jordan in the hospital both victims of the “blind virus”. Jason would recover quickly and be discharged by weeks’ end. Jordan wasn’t as fortunate. She had one kidney removed and the other was damaged. She will need a kidney transplant. Curtis told a guilt-ridden Drew the accident wasn’t his fault. Jasam found out Carly is pregnant. Anna was in pursuit of the whereabouts of Dr. Klein and his medical records to find out more about the memory transfer project and patients 1-4. We heard Dr. Cabot telling someone on the phone that he has the cure for the HN-242 Virus. Lulu (the victim) interviewed Franco (her alleged attacker), only in soapland. Franco was cold, detached and his answers were “strange”. Lulu was more sure than ever something was off. And Liz and Drew wondered if Franco was trying to send them a message.
Port Charles realized Laura was missing. But Chase appeared to be the only one really looking for her. We forgave Lulu that she wasn’t in tuned that her mom was really missing because she was laser focused on filling in the blanks in her memory. And she was also focused on solving the riddle of how “Kevin” knew about Ryan’s two additional victims when nobody else did. Maxie, Felicia and Mac were helping Lulu. Keep thinking you all were getting warm. Franco, on the other hand, was ice cold. He blabbered to Ryan (not Liz) about Jordan’s entire plan. Ryan stabbed him and he still hadn’t put two and two together. Please undomesticate Franco pronto. After Ryan spelled it out for him, Franco did pull himself together to escape, leave a message on the burner phone Jordan gave him about Ryan being the killer and made it to Liz’s house. At Liz’s house, he bled and bled, told Liz he was innocent and told her Ryan Chamberlain was the killer (Liz thought he had lost too much blood) before he was taken away.
“Rava” is eloping to Niagara Falls the same place the teens are headed for their adventure trip.
Dun Dun Duuuuun!! Carly took Ava’s bait and got all riled up over Ava marrying “Kevin” and went to confront him. Oh, Carly girl we think you may be in trouble!
Days of our Lives
Our Salem Fire Starter, Claire had a dream, that she confessed to starting the first fire to Ciara and Tripp. But alas, it was only a dream. But it was no dream on Friday when Tripp found the lighter in her jewelry box. Sarah put out Rex’s fire real quick when she declined his marriage proposal. Chloe and Stefan bonded over a game of chess. How DiMera like. Gabi took Brady’s advice and went around Stefan to Mr. Shin to get her job back with Gabi Chic. Stefan wasn’t thrilled. Stefan and Gabi are so much fun. Gabi and Brady agreed to team up to bring Stefan down. More fun to come. Diana loaded the gun (she got John to agree not to tell Marlena or Leo that she told John Leo was his son) and she just needed Victor to pull the trigger. Diana promised Victor the goods on Leo if he helped her break up John and Marlena. Wilson got out on bail. Sonny told Justin he wasn’t going to live another moment without Will and if he had to, he would live on the run to be with the man he loved.
Salem held their first Mayoral Debate for the 2019 election. It started out normal and heated enough. We love the realistic references; liberal bias, Put American First, rush to judgement, illegal immigration, etc. Trask called out Abe for Xander being free. Shelia offered to resign. But Abe wouldn’t let her and gave her that look of appreciation for the gesture. Jack should have but didn’t resist the urge to tap into that not so virtuous part of himself. Jack willingly stood up and betrayed JJ’s confidence and told everyone that Haley was in the country illegally. And he added the tidbit he got from Eve that Trask and Haley were sisters. Haley laid into, broke-up with and ran out on a remorseful JJ. Elani, who was ordered by ICE to detain Haley, was closing in on her at the hospital when JJ found her to warn her.
Hope apologized to Ben for being wrong about him and for how she treated him. A despondent Ben lamented on how he thought he could control his inner demons but wasn’t so sure anymore. Ben believed he was no good for Ciara. Ooh, #cinners get ready for some twisty angst!
Performers of the Week
Our Performer of the Week is Gina Tognoni! (Phyllis, Young and the Restless) The boss man and I had a good hunch that we already had our performer of the week on Monday and we were right. Phyllis was the picture of strength behind the Jabot CEO desk at her meeting with Jabot’s top executives that she called for them to fall in line. But when it was just her and Lauren, Phyllis’ facade broke and she was real and open with her bestie that she needed her support. In Phick’s face off Gina was magnificent. She was defiant, angry and defended her actions unapologetically. But when Nick brought up that Phyllis was willing to let Victor go to jail for a crime he didn’t commit, Gina went to werk. Phyllis’ anger fell away and Gina brought us to the innermost part of Phyllis. Phyllis was still haunted by what Victor did to her. She was hurt that she was being blamed for everything. And she was deeply wounded that Nick had no faith in her. That final scene arc masterful. Gina werked it!
Our Honorable Mention is Casey Moss (JJ, Days of our Lives) JJ has found himself wedged between his new lady, his father’s ambitions, Eve’s quest for revenge and ICE. We enjoyed the scenes with Haley and JJ and JJ and Jennifer. But when JJ went toe to toe with Jack we were like, Yes! Yes! Yes! This is what we dreamed about when we first learned Jack was back. Last week we couldn’t have asked for more. Casey was sensational in his interpretation of the emotions (disappointment, anger, betrayal, pain) one would feel when a boy’s fantasy of having his father back met the harsh reality of who his father is now. JJ became his own man last week and Casey did an awesome job of allowing us to see JJ’s transformation. Well done, Casey!
