Rena Sofer (aka Lois from General Hospital) and her husband, Sanford Bookstaver, have officially packed up and left Los Angeles behind. In a video shared online, the couple is seen saying goodbye as they get ready to start their new life in New York.
The post’s caption, written by Sofer, read:
“We’ve been in LA for almost 35 years and now it’s time for me and @sbookstaver to go. No one better than Billy Joel to create the perfect soundtrack to our dreams! Yes, I’m getting emotional. I met and had my children in LA, met the man of my dreams, and created an incredible life there. I had amazing success in the Biz and made all my lifelong friends who I will miss desperately—especially my BFF @arinacabral and my brother @davidsofer53!!! Thank you LA for being you. And now on to quieter and calmer times. Leave it to a leaf blower to finish this post—there is nothing more LA! Now we’re off in our @rivianofficial with our five dogs in the back, heading to our new life!!! #saygoodbyetohollywood”
So, what does this big move mean for Lois Cerullo and General Hospital fans?
During a recent fan event, Sofer addressed her move and reassured viewers that she’s still committed to the show. While she isn’t currently under contract, she made it clear that she’s happy to travel back to LA whenever the soap calls her in.
A little peek into her personal timeline: Sofer married television director and producer Sanford Bookstaver in 2003. They welcomed their daughter (Sofer’s second child) in 2005, right in Los Angeles. The couple divorced in 2017, but love had other plans. In 2019, they reconciled, got re-engaged, and—drumroll—remarried in 2024.
