Thom Bierdz is best known for his role as Philip Chancellor III on ‘The Young and the Restless’, a role he played from 1986 – 1989 but making brief returns with his final appearance in 2011. Originally Bierdz left the CBS daytime drama to pursue film roles but shortly after experienced an unforgettable life-changing tragedy when his younger brother, Troy murdered their mother with a baseball bat for which he is currently serving a life sentence in a Wisconsin Prison. Tragedy continued when his other brother, Craig committed suicide in May 2000.
This week’s “Evil Lives Here” focuses on the tragic murder of the actor’s mother by his own brother. His brother lived with their mother, Phyllis while they stayed in their hometown where he was thought to be suffering from schizophrenia. As a mother, Phyllis had taken her son to numerous doctors and many of them thought he was faking the symptoms. Phyllis made reports that her son threatened to kill her but no one took her seriously. It was unfortunate that she was tragically beaten to death by her own son with a baseball bat in their home later down the road. Bierdz has since released a book called Forgiving Troy.
