Y&R Recap January 29, 2024! Today on The Young and the Restless: Victor and Jack disagree on how to help Nikki, Chance sees a new side to Summer, and Audra swallows her pride at the office.

Summer and Chance meet for their dinner date at the GCAC. Upon Summer revealing her attire, Chance is taken aback and expresses his admiration, stating that she looks perfect.
They proceed to sit, savor some wine, and partake in a conversation about their initial encounter. Summer expresses concern regarding the possibility of encountering Kyle, Abby, or even her mother. In contrast, Chance remains unperturbed by the prospect of any unwelcome interruptions during their date.
Chance suggests that, in order to alleviate any potential awkwardness during their date, they could take the opportunity to get to know each other better. They establish certain guidelines and agree to take turns asking each other questions. As the conversation progresses, Summer implores him to share something that she would never have guessed about him. Later, Summer discloses that she has a severe peanut allergy and assures him that, at some point, she will reveal how she ended up in a Swiss clinic due to peanuts. In turn, he confides that he experiences hives when consuming kiwi. They also engage in discussions about their respective adolescent years.

Upon her request, Audra goes to see Nikki. Nikki explains that she believes they should address the recent exchange to clear the air. She apologizes for snapping at her, but Audra insists that the apology should come from her for overstepping.
Nikki reiterates her discomfort with Audra knowing about her recent struggles with sobriety. She expresses concern that their work dynamic may become awkward now that Audra is aware. Furthermore, learning about Audra’s father’s challenges leads Nikki to believe that Audra will be constantly monitoring her behavior. Audra assures Nikki that she back off and that things do not have to got that way. Despite Audra’s reassurances, Nikki remains convinced that it may not foster a conducive working relationship between them.

Nikki maintains that she is not firing her, but rather presenting an opportunity. She indicates her desire for her to supervise the Newman offices in London. Audra acknowledges her capability but specifies that the office is not scheduled to open until next year. Nikki explains that there is a lot of work to get done, so it would be best for Audra to go from now. Audra shares that she loves Genoa City and is reluctant to relocate. However, Nikki remains firm in her belief that it is a perfect opportunity.
Audra maintains her stance, emphasizing to Nikki that with Claire no longer her assistant, and without Audra’s support, Nikki will have sole responsibility for running Newman Media. Audra underscores the potential stress associated with this situation and its adverse effects on her sobriety, highlighting stress as a significant trigger.
She cautions Nikki about the potential consequences of her decision. In response, Nikki says, “I am sorry you feel that way. You leave me no choice but to let you go.” Nikki promises Audra a comprehensive severance package and a good recommendation. Following Audra’s departure, Nikki momentarily considers turning to alcohol but refrains, choosing instead to call Jack for help.

At Society, Jack leaves Nikki a voicemail, checking upon her. Upon noticing Victor at the bar, he hesitates before deciding to join him. Sensing that Victor is in need of someone to confide in, Jack offers a sympathetic ear, but Victor questions why he would choose to confide in him specifically. Finding common ground as grandfathers, they engage in a conversation about Harrison. In a gesture of camaraderie, Jack suggests that they share a drink as a nod to their past rivalry. However, Victor orders tequila and instructs the waiter to charge it to Jack’s tab.

Jack mentions that he heard some unsettling news regarding the Newman family’s experience with a kidnapping incident. He indicates that he learned about the situation from Nikki while they were at Crimson Lights. Jack expresses that the information he gathered suggests that it had been a profoundly distressing ordeal. In response, Victor assures him that his family is now safe, with the perpetrators facing the consequences of their actions. Victor emphasizes his unwavering commitment to protecting his family, a sentiment that Jack acknowledges as one of the few qualities he has always admired in Victor.
Reflecting on their history, Victor admits that there has been instances when he considered Jack to be a formidable opponent. Transitioning the conversation, Victor questions Jack’s intentions. Despite sensing progress in their discussion, Jack reiterates that his primary concern remains Nikki’s well-being and the welfare of their family. However, Victor maintains that it is a matter pertaining to their family and none of Jack’s concern.
Audra encounters Victor at Society and informs him of her termination by Nikki. Victor is surprised at not being informed of the decision to relocate her to the London office. He offers to compensate her, highlighting the abundance of opportunities for her at Newman Enterprises. Despite his offer, Audra declines, indicating that she has her own plans and is clear on her next steps. Victor then departs.

Meanwhile, at the office, Jack joins Nikki and locks the door. He inquires about the reason for her reaching out, and she discloses that she had a distressing day with Audra, who is aware of her struggles with sobriety. Nikki ponders whether she made a mistake in dismissing Audra. Additionally, she acknowledges that Audra signed a non-disclosure agreement and is assured that she would not pursue legal recourse.
Jack proposes that Nikki seek a COO she can work with, and suggests Nick for the position. Although Nikki agrees that he would be a suitable candidate, she notes Victor’s insistence on Nick working closely with Adam. Jack also recommends Victoria, but Nikki explains that Victoria needs to prioritize her family at present. When Jack suggests Nate, Nikki voices her refusal to ever trust him again after his past actions. Nikki expresses feeling that her entire life is spiraling out of control, while Jack hints at having an idea that he is confident she will not reject. Though he cannot disclose the details at this time, he implores her to trust him. Their conversation is interrupted by Victor’s knock at the door.
