The 2020 Daytime Emmys are upon us with the show just eight days away!
Returning to primetime for the first time since 2011, the 2-hour ceremony, hosted by the ladies of The Talk, will air virtually Friday, June 26 at 8p ET /PT on CBS. The winners in “leading categories” will be announced on the telecast while additional categories will be announced simultaneously on the Daytime Emmys’ Twitter and others will be presented in a separate ceremony in July.
Our team at Soap Opera News – and you the fans – have chosen our Emmy-winner predictions. See who we think will take home the gold!
Outstanding Lead Actor
From heartbreaks to shocking reveals, this group of leading men really showed us just how talented they are!
Michael: Jason Thompson
Jason Thompson really took advantage of the fact that his character Billy was given a sole episode. In a DID-esque storyline, Billy was left to fight his demons and an evil alter-ego. Thompson did a fantastic job of portraying Billy’s inner struggle.
Tori: Thorsten Kaye
My vote originally was going to go to Jason as well but after seeing Thorsten Kaye’s reel I changed my mind. Kaye’s performance in the scenes when Ridge realized that he and his wife were not ever going to see eye to eye about their children won me over. You could feel how conflicted he was as he ended things with the woman he loves for the sake of his son – and he made this Bridge hater feel bad for them. So, I have to go with Thorsten!
Fan Vote: Jason Thompson
With 39% of the vote, the fans have chosen YR’s Jason Thompson as their leading man this year!
Outstanding Lead Actress
There is not a single person in this category that isn’t deserving of this award! We wish we could pull a Mean Girls prom moment where we break the trophy apart and let everyone have a piece!
Tori: Maura West
Maura West will go down as one of the most iconic soap stars of all-time. And there is no surprise seeing her up for the Lead Actress Emmy. West submitted the scene where Ava held her daughter’s killer at gunpoint.
Michael: Arianne Zucker
We were SO excited to see Arianne Zucker’s name on this nomination list! She killed it last year as Nicole and as Kristen. Arianne submitted the scene where Nicole was inconsolable after finding out that her daughter Holly had died in a car accident.
Fan Vote: Finola Hughes
The beloved Finola Hughes received 42% of the fan vote! Hughes doubled up on roles once again as she played twins Anna and Alex. She submitted the scene where Alex confided in Anna about memories that haunted her.
Outstanding Supporting Actor
The race for the Supporting Actor Emmy has never been so close! Incredible soap vets like Bryton James, Wally Kurth, and James Patrick Stuart really shined. While Mark Grossman, Paul Telfer, and Chandler Massey’s emotional scenes had us applauding.
Michael: Chandler Massey
The Emmy-winning actor broke our hearts as Will ended his marriage to Sonny while in prison. Massey continued to prove that he can nail a performance when given the material. And we wouldn’t be surprised to see him get another win.
Tori: Bryton James
Bryton James is an incredible talent and when you mix that real-life emotion you get emotional perfection. James submitted a scene from April 25, 2019, where Devon eulogized his father Neil. If we could hand someone the trophy ourselves it would be him.
Fan Vote: Chandler Massey
With 78% of the vote, the fans have chosen Days of Our Lives’ Chandler Massey as their pick for Outstanding Supporting Actor.
Outstanding Supporting Actress
This year’s Supporting Actress category is filled with poignant and powerful performances! Each woman gave us every bit of heartbreak they could muster with some of this year’s most memorable storylines.
Michael: Christel Khalil
Christel Khalil had us crying with her heartbreaking speech during Neil’s funeral. You could feel the raw emotion behind the scene. And there is just nothing more to say than that there is no one more deserving of this honor.
Tori: Annika Noelle
When Annika Noelle made her Bold debut little did we know that the weight of the show would be put on her shoulders for the better part of a year. And we were surprised by just how well she handled the pressure. That girl had to cry more in a few months than most soap characters do in a lifetime. Annika submitted the devastating scenes when Hope learned that her baby had died after giving birth.
Fan Vote: Tamara Braun
Another incredible performance came from General Hospital’s Tamara Braun. This Emmy-winner earned 34% of the fan vote thanks to the scenes where Kim has a conversation with her son after learning that he only has less than two months to live.
Outstanding Younger Performer
We love to see the next generation of soap stars on the rise! And these wonderful ladies are representing the best of the best!
Michael: Olivia Rose Keegan
Olivia Rose Keegan was incredible as she portrayed Claire’s mental breakdown. Keegan submitted a scene from when Claire held Ciara hostage. Her powerful and at times manic performance as she blamed Ciara from taking everything from her.
Tori: Eden McCoy
Eden McCoy is one of our favorite stars of the next generation because she has such respect for the genre and its history. That reverence on top of her amazing talent is everything. Eden put in the work as Josslyn dealt with the fact that she was losing her first love.
Fan Vote: Olivia Rose Keegan
Olivia’s work stood out to the fans as she received 44% percent of the vote!
Outstanding Guest Performer
The Guest Performer category was full of major soap stars like Eva LaRue and Michael Knight as well as memorable newcomer Elissa Kapneck. And while any one of the talented people nominated could win there were two that stood out amongst the crowd.
Michael: Jeffrey Vincent Parise
Jeffrey left us shaken with his performance of dastardly Simon Black on The Young and the Restless. One of the highlights from Parise’s reel showcased his strong performance as Simon held Adam, Chelsea, and Connor at gunpoint. He just played bad so well!
Tori: Chrishell Stause
Chrishell or bust! This actress is already incredible and when she made her latest return to Days of Our Lives as the troubled Jordan Ridgeway we knew that she would shine. Her reel included the scene where Jordan confessed to Rafe about her secret son, David.
Fan Vote: Chrishell Stause
It looks like the fans are in agreement with one of us. With 38% of the vote, the fans have chosen Chrishell Stause as their pick for Outstanding Guest Performer.
Outstanding Drama Series
While all four shows delivered some great work this past year there was just one that stood out for our SON team and won over the fans with 35% of the vote. The Young and the Restless highlighted the episodes surrounding the death of veteran character Neil Winters. The Daytime community was left devastated after the death of Kristoff St. John and YR provided the cast, characters, and fans with an opportunity to honor the beloved actor with a beautiful storyline.
