At Day of Days in Los Angeles, fans from all over gathered in Los Angeles to celebrate Days of our Lives and meet their favorite actors and pairings. Amongst those pairings were the ever-popular Johnny DiMera and Chanel Dupree played by Carson Boatman and Raven Bowens
Soap Opera News caught up with the actors.
The first thing that came up was whether or not Days has a swear jar on set, to which Boatman said he was glad there wasn’t or he’d be broke!
As to Johnny and Chanel being back together, “It was quick!” Raven said, “But last time, it was so long! So it was when she was choosing between Johnny and Allie (Lindsay Arnold), she was like, ‘I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know!’ for such a long time. I think we were, in a way expecting for it to go the same way, and we were like, ‘We just did this.’ So it was nice that it was to the point… Let’s do it!”
Boatman said, “I always felt like Johnny and Chanel were the OTP (one true pairing).” Bowens was happy to hear that, and together they sang a little “Chanel and John-ny! The OTP!” rhyme in the same vein as “OPP” by Naughty by Nature.
Raven Bowens was surprised and honored to know that Soap Opera News knows and respects her passion for culinary delights, she agrees that maybe one day she should write a cookbook but right now is focused on her tea company Peace Potions which she plans to revamp around the holidays.
Bowens also hosts a book club that Carson’s wife Juliana attends!
Regarding the future, “He’s been hitting the gym!” congratulates Carson.
“Just your usual lack of clothing, but we’re six months ahead and I’m just now getting into shape, so my shirtless stuff is gonna be airing in the next few months it’s gonna be just so-so, so tune in in February, folks!” Carson Boatman added.
The cast is better able to know where they are plot-wise around the holiday season, given the six-month lead time between filming an episode and its broadcast on Peacock. Given that it’s Halloween right now, they are pretty secure in knowing what is being broadcast currently for stories.
“Chanel and Johnny are back together and they’re about to take their relationship to the next level,” Raven said while waving her hand in an homage to Beyonce’s single ladies’ dance.
“Someone is going to try to get in the way of it.” Says Boatman.
When referring to potentially Holly’s (Ashley Puzemis) meddling in their relationship, Raven says, “it’s a lot like Clueless.” in reference to Holly and Johnny’s familial ties.
Carson Boatman at this point, seemed to really want to push the fact that it was he who PROPOSED they make Holly sixteen years old for the story. Raven said he was lying, but with a nod and wink he repeated the statement that he PROPOSED parts of the story playing out… Raven catching on said, “and I said yes.”
Carson thinks Johnny is different than the rest of the DiMera family, “I think he has the DiMera in him! That’s why the devil was able to get to him. He is a little power-hungry. But he’s too nice to be the bad guy.”
In closing, Boatman said of Chanel’s influence on Johnny, “I think Johnny thinks ‘what would Chanel’ think before making decisions.” (Photos: JPI)
