Denise Alexander, best known for playing Lesley Webber on General Hospital, died at 85 on March 5, 2025, per TV Insider.
Born on November 11, 1939, in New York City, Alexander was raised in Long Island before moving to Los Angeles when her father, Alec Alexander, decided to make the switch from the East to the West Coast.
By the time she was a junior at UCLA, she had appeared on TV and radio. Alexander made her feature movie debut at the age of 14 in the film Crime in the Streets.
Denise Alexander’s Soap Career
Alexander’s big break on soaps came with the role of Susan Hunter Martin on Days of our Lives, a role she played from 1966 to 1973, when the character was written out of the show temporarily.
Following this, she was hired for the role of Lesley Webber on General Hospital, a role she has played on and off since 1973. She originally played the character from 1973 to 1984 on contract, 1996 to 2009, and a guest stint in 2013, in honor of the show’s 50th anniversary.
Alexander returned to General Hospital for two other guest appearances in December 2017 and April 2019. Her most recent appearance on the show was in 2021.
Her other soap roles are that of the McKinnon matriarch, Mary, on Another World and Sister Beatrice on Sunset Beach. Outside of soaps, she is credited with shows such as This Is the Life, The Virginian, Pretty the Series, and more.
